I have been sick and I have not been to the farm but one time since December. I felt good today and my friend Linda Chancey said "Let's Go". Leslie came over and we sat on the porch watching all the birds, watching the turtles on the pond, relaxing in the spring weather. Leslie brought Cooper over. I had not met him. He is wonderful. Well mannered, loving, great little dog. I saw George catching bugs and blowing his red neck out. Martha was there, but she kept hiding. Started to leave and saw the new bull. We have had a back bull. Linda said this one is copper and we should call him copper. Oh, No, Wait. He is red. His name is going to be Red Bull. We will see if he has energy like the drink when we start counting calves!

John told me we had Alabama Fans coming for Thanksgiving. I could not resist the Auburn theme and I dressed up for them. One person came with an Alabama shirt and we also had one Georgia fan.

October 27, 2023, picking cotton at Whiddon Farm Pond. The cotton picker is getting it, and the bush hog is cleaning up the stalks. I remember picking cotton and putting it in a bag. Emptying the bag in a wagon. Then mules pulling the wagon to town to the gin. The funniest thing is corn sprouting on the bush hog. Corn stalks must have been the last thing it cut. Looking toward town from the cotton are the peanuts. Next will come the peanut picker. Love the farm. We have cotton, peanuts, cows, and fish. It is a good life.

As all of you know there is a Christmas tree at the pond house that is all fish and cows. A new bull arrived, and he was so excited to be there. I introduced him to the cows, and he immediately fell in love with one. He wanted to hang out with her. And so they will hang together ever after!

This is so funny to me. I have had a “pond house” at my farm in Newville for over 20 years now. That electric fence has been there that long. The electric fence gate is just to the left (east) of that tree on the left in the first picture. Never in all these years have I ever seen the cows laying down right at my back door! They always walk by and look at me, I talk to them, but they keep going. Yesterday after I talked to them, I went into the house, and they got up and walked down to the pond and took a dip. Actually, several cows went in the water to the left (east) of the dock and walked in the shallow water almost to the damn. I can’t get anything done for watching and talking to cows!

Some really sweet people went thrift store shopping. I got very special pre-loved items. I now have them all cleaned up and in place. A sign for the porch and a new picture frame. The sign, "The smaller tie size, the bigger the lies." The frame is on the very over crowded mantel right below the "Big Fish". In a few days it will have an awesome picture in it.

Fourth of July at the Pond House. Good food, hot weather, and fishing. It was hot as blue blazes or hot at red and yellow blazes, not sure which one is hotter. Fishing late afternoon and early morning, no breeze. Aidy liked sitting in the air conditioning best. Went to the Agricultural Parade up town at 5:00 on the 4th. It was hot, hot, hot. Frank was driving Linda's daddy's 1954 Ford tractor in the parade. That was great.

Great trip to the pond house. Leslie had been shopping and I got the benefits. New sign for the porch, picture frame, and ornaments for the fish and cow Christmas tree. Yeah, me!

We have a new bird house for the porch at the pond. It is a bait shop, now we don't have to go anywhere to buy crickets and worms we can get them right here! Thank you Linda.

Great night at the pond house. John and Nikki brought Max and Calleigh. Of course Aidy came too. I was so excited to see them all. Leslie took the girls rock hunting, Nikki went to. They went all around the pond. John grilled chicken and pork chops. Aidy got lots of attention from Aunt Leslie. We had banana splits in Waffle bowls, Aunt Leslie's great idea. They played soccer on the newly grated dirt road. John and Max went fishing this morning and they did catch fish. They stayed up late last night, like a spend the night party. I may have had more fun than any of them.

New Calf # 4. We are giving his new bull a raise. He is doing really good this year!

John and Nikki took Max and Callie to the pond house. Their mother, Nita, loved going there. They all wrote her notes to say they love her and miss her. They set them on fire and dropped them in the pond.

Leslie was talking to the cows this morning. The girls say good morning. Well, all but the one in the back...she ain't got time for that. And our Arachnid Diva. She's a pretty big lady. Would spread out in my palm.

This is the story of the fence. It was down several times before and after Christmas. In February John and I got a camera and set it to see if we could find out who was messing up the fence. Nothing happened until this morning. First cow went though the fence at 7:11 Second cow at 8:12. I immediately sent pictures to Thomas. At 9:30 the fence rescue arrived. He just put it all back together and was gone by 9:46. This camera has been so much fun, but today it did what I have been waiting for.
