Jeff has been waiting too long for his forever home. Give us a call to meet this fun guy!
Grizz needs you to share his post TODAY!
Grizz is a Shepherd mix who has been with us for about a year. You won't find him on our website though - you don't put your finest jewels out on display, do you?! Same principle. But really, we're looking for just the right person for Grizz and here's why:
First, he's a big guy, tipping the scales at 100lbs! Second, we want an experienced owner for him- Shep person is a bonus.
Third, we just don't want to have to break too many hearts because we know everyone will want this ruggedly handsome, obedient guy.π
When Grizz first came to us he was fun, but a bit of a mouthy, bouncy punky boy- like a dog who has never had anything asked of him. He more likely than not, lived outside.
Over the months after intake, SPCA staffer and bff, Rachel, put a lot of work into Grizz. He attended, and graduated, level 1 obedience at Niagara K9 Academy with Kathy. After classes, they've been working on cooperative care which is his biggest challenge.
Grizz is great with anyone who handles him, outside of a veterinary setting. He finds vet staff just fine until the medical part happens, and then they're big, scary and stabby with needles, and we don't disagree. A veterinary setting can be really scary, especially if you went 4 years of your life never being exposed to it.
Rachel boarded her own dogs recently, and took Grizz home for a weekend to see how he would be in a house. HE WAS A GENTLEMAN! He was sweet, cuddley, obedient and was enamored with the tv. Grizz watched A Bug's Life so intently with Rachel and we can't handle the adorable video. Despite likely being an outside dog, he didn't have a single accident in the house.
Grizz shows willingness to have canine buddies, but it's best he doesn't live with small animals. We have no history with children.
Grizz doesn't have a laundry list of needs- he just needs a calm confident owner who will keep up with his training. Routine veterinary care is so important and your vet NEEDS

Kane is still looking for love at the Niagara SPCA.
Jeff is a pint sized guy at roughly 36lbs. He's just over a year old. Jeff may be able to live with another pup. He loves people. Is super sweet and cuddley, and cute as a button. Shelter life is really getting Jeff down, so he's taken matters into his own hands, and is actively trying to find an adopter. π«π
Jeff comes with 6 weeks of sponsored obedience classes through the Noble Beast, courtesy of his friends Selina and Angela!
If Jeff hasn't called you yet, you can reach him at 716-731-4368 ext 0.
Temperatures are going to plummet with lows in the single digits and in some places, dropping below 0Β°F over the next 2 days. Please bring your short haired dogs inside! They are not built for this weather.
Keep an eye on dogs who go out for potty breaks- especially small, thin-coated, young, old, or sick dogs. Dogs can develop hypothermia or frostbite quickly when temperatures drop below 20Β°.
Many dogs will get cold feet while outside and may need to be rescued and carried inside.
Think about putting a coat or booties on your pup.
Check between toes for clumps of snow or ice when dogs come inside.
Husky owners...carry on. π (But please be conscientious during this cold spell.)
Stay safe and warm, everyone!
Not all heroes wear capes.
Do we have any cat moms or dads out there who could be a hero and have a spot for a shy guy? Tim Bit is young (around a year give or take). He was trapped from a small colony by a local trapper and neutered. He was what many community cat caretakers refer to as feeder friendly. She saw promise in him and wanted to give him a chance at indoor cat life. He's not currently a lap cat, but may blossom into one with time and patience.
He gave shelter staff a run for their money while he was here, escaping his kennel during cleanings to hide under banks of cages. He then went into a foster home where he has shown social behavior- talking, allowing chin scritches. We haven't gotten a purr yet, but we're close. He's only been in foster for a few weeks. He is pro cat social- really opens up in the presence of other cats. It's like night and day.
He is super food motivated, and play motivated when he's comfortable with you.
We too want to give him a chance at being a loved indoor cat instead of a loved outdoor cat. Trust us- we are all about TNVR and are not in the business of solializing ferals. This guy isn't that. He's just very shy. If all else fails, we do have a nice barn home lined up, but if someone steps forward who has cat social cats already, that would be the perfect placement for him.
While a meet and greet isn't going to produce instant love on his part, we will require an appointment because he is in a foster home.
His adoption fee has been sponsored.
Please give us a call at 716-731-4368 ext 0 to meet Tim Bit.
