Dolly, a sweet German Shorthair Pointer, reuniting with her owner after a tough fight against two venomous snakebites. Treatment included 13 doses of anti-venom (instead of the typical 2-3 doses), 4 nights of hospitalization, and the donation of two American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) grants totaling $4,000 by our very own Drs. Carroll and Davis. This is why we do what we do. ❤️

Meet Dolly - a German Shorthair Pointer brought to our Niceville location with what we identified as two snakebites.

While we initially thought 2-3 doses of anti-venom would stabilize her, she ended up requiring a whopping 13 doses and 4 nights in our hospital with continual monitoring by our dedicated veterinary team. Multiple doctors were involved in Dolly’s care, including veterinarians from University of Florida, as we explored any viable anti-venom treatment options to save her life.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our very own Drs. Carroll and Davis, we were also able to contribute a combined $4,000 of their American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) grant money to Dolly’s family so we could continue her treatment. A few days later, she made a full recovery and was able to head home to her family! 🏡

This was more than veterinary medicine— it was a collaborative effort fueled by love and compassion from Dolly’s owner, our veterinary team, and our community. We’re beyond grateful to have played a part in Dolly’s recovery and are happy to see her back to her old self! 🐾

It's su***de prevention month.

Although discussing mental health can be seen as a sensitive subject, EVC believes mental health is extremely important. We want our staff to know their mental well-being is important, our clients to understand the struggles veterinary staff endure, and our peers in the industry to become more comfortable talking to others about the mental and emotional impact our field can have on one another.

to your veterinary staff-they care deeply for all animals and are doing their best to care for you and your pet.

While July 4th is fun and we want everyone to be safe, please remember it's also very stressful to some of our veterans, prior law enforcement, and our pets.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Don't let your pet become a statistic!!!!!!
More dogs go missing on the 4th of July than on any other day of the year. 60% of those that are lost never return home.

Follow these tips to ensure your pet stays safe this Independence Day.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
🎆 Keep your pet in a room with no windows where they are comfortable.
🎆 Play music or turn on the TV to drown out the sounds made by fireworks.
🎆 If you know your pet is fearful of fireworks, anti-anxiety medications can be helpful to alleviate stress to our pets. Be sure to give these medications BEFORE fireworks start. We recommend at least 2 hours prior to the start.
🎆 Accidents happen. Ensure your pet's microchip and other identification is up to date with your current phone number and address in the event your pet escapes.

Tech Tip Tuesday!

The 4th of July is less than a month away!
Update your pet's microchip information through the microchip company's database!

Having an updated microchip greatly increases your pet's chances of returning home in the event they get lost. Ensuring your current phone number and address are updated in the microchip company database will allow veterinary clinics like EVC or animal control officers to contact you in the event your pet is found or needs medical care.

⚠️⚠️ ⚠️ Warning Pet Owners⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️
More pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other holiday. Only 14% ever make it back home to their owners.

🌞 Summertime is here, it's HOT and so are our pets! 🌞

🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
It's HOT out. EVC wants owners to remember our pets' natural temperatures are higher (100°F -102.5°F) than our own (98.6°F), and they can't sweat to cool themselves. It does not take much for dogs and cats to overheat in this warmer weather. Unfortunately, EVC and surrounding area clinics have seen too many pet deaths already this season due to heat related incidents.

Cold weather breeds such as Siberian Huskies, St Bernards and Alaskan Malamutes and Brachycephalic dogs such as English Bulldogs, Pugs and Boston Terriers and other similar breeds should NEVER be outside for extended periods of time nor be running or playing in the heat of the day. These breeds should have light activity during summer months. They should only be outside in the mornings and late afternoons when it's cooler to prevent heat related injuries.

Learn the signs of heatstroke and how to prevent them.
Symptoms of overheating in pets can include:

💧Excessive panting
💧Difficulty breathing
💧Increased heart rate
💧Increased respiratory rate
💧Drooling
💧Weakness
💧Collapse
💧Seizure
💧Bloody Diarrhea
💧Vomiting
💧Elevated body temperature

👮NEVER leave your pet alone in a vehicle!
Even if it’s just for a minute and the windows are cracked, it could still be too hot for your pet. It's never safe to leave an animal in a parked vehicle alone. Leaving an animal in a hot car can lead to fatal heat stroke and is illegal in several states.
