Hello! We wanted to let everyone know that we will be closed December 24th, December 25th, and January 1st. We will be open regular business hours apart from those upcoming dates. Should you find yourself in need of care for a pet, we recommend the following - UrgentVet, located at 4084 Finn Way in Lexington, 859-800-0322, will be open on the holidays from 12:00PM - 8:00PM; MedVet Lexington, located at 150 Dennis Dr in Lexington, 859-276-2505, will be open with limited hours; and Advanced Animal Care, located at 2120 Pimlico Dr. Richmond, 859-625-5678 will be open with limited hours. As an AAHA accredited clinic, we are constantly educating ourselves on how to offer the best standard of care to our clients and their pets. In light of recent research, the Leptospirosis vaccine is now considered "core" for dogs and is recommended for every dog, regardless of lifestyle.

Lepto is a bacteria carried in the urine of wildlife that can survive in the soil for months. It can be carried by any living mammal- so raccoons, squirrels, cows, rats, and any other mammals can carry the bacteria and pass it in their urine to your pet. Leptospirosis is also a zoonotic disease, which means that your pet can also pass it to you. Lepto infection has become much more prevalent in areas that it was previously rare, so for that reason it is now highly recommended that your dog receive the vaccine regardless of its lifestyle.

Please contact us at the clinic if you have any questions or would like to schedule your dog to start the injectable Lepto vaccine! If your dog has never received the vaccine before, it will need a booster 3-4 weeks after the first one. After that it is boostered yearly at your dog's annual visit.

The AAHA 2023 Canine Vaccination Guidelines have now officially been updated to reflect a change in status of the leptospirosis vaccine from non-core to core.

We got the best greeting from the very joyous Dex this morning, and we wanted to share his smile with the rest of our friends! We will also take this opportunity to let everyone know we are closed tomorrow, but will be back in on Friday from 7:30-5:00 (closed for lunch from 12:00-1:00). We are thankful for each of you!

We had a fabulous November getting to meet the incoming Pre-Schoolers to the Animal Hospital pack. We are so pleased to introduce these babies to you!

The holidays are approaching! Please remember, that if you are going to get a live-action version of a stuffed animal for your family, that they are a life-time commitment and do require vaccines and doctor visits, like all kids do. Of course, once you decide to commit to a fluffy face, bring them our way just like these fabulous pet parents did so that we can love on them too!
