Cashew took her first trailer ride since she became handleable and earned the title “formerly feral”. She was one of the demonstration horses used in Dr. Lew Sterrett’s Sermon on the Mount presentation for the Citygate network conference. Their offsite event was held at the Kentucky Horse Park and featured Cashew, and another horse, neither of whom had ever been ridden. Dr. Sterrett illustrates the communication and connection between horses and humans and uses that to relate to and make connections with human relationships in everyday life, and the struggles we may face.
Cashew was a bit unsure of the noisy crowd and was quite confused when they clapped. By the end of her hour-long session with Dr. Sterrett and his assistant, Cashew was saddled and carrying a rider on her back at the walk and trot. Cashew was a feral, free-roaming horse who faced many difficulties in her life before coming into our care. She showed just how resilient horses (and people) are, and how successful they can be despite less than ideal circumstances.
Cashew is available for adoption as a lightly started riding horse, meaning she has been backed and ridden, but will still need a trainer-type home to continue her under-saddle training.

☀️Success Story Sunday☀️Blaze was surrendered to us in August 2023 from a home where his owner could no longer afford to feed him. He was severely undernourished, blind in one eye, and had other health concerns. He was immediately put on a refeeding schedule and his health was closely monitored. Blaze loved attention and stole the hearts of all who met him. Despite his hardship, this horse had the most positive of attitudes. Today, he's living his best life in North Carolina with his forever family. His transformation and adoption were made possible by the dedicated veterinarians, trainers, staff, and supporters at KYEAC. Please consider donating to help us continue the work we do! HAPPY ADOPTION DAY, TOPAZ!
If you love something, set it free…
Here at the Kentucky Equine Adoption Center, we love all our horses, however, sometimes there is one that grabs hold of your heart and refuses to let go. Case in point, our sweet Topaz. Topaz was born on the farm on June 29th, 2023, to feral mare Taz. In the early hours, Topaz had difficulties standing and would not nurse. Taz sensed something was wrong with her foal and walked away.
Topaz was sent to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital where she spent the next week in ICU receiving the fluids that she was lacking. Topaz, with her bright color and beautiful blonde mane, soon became everyone’s favorite foal. We hired Western Ransom from Nurse mares of Kentucky, and became forever bonded. After six months of learning how to feed and to be a foal, Topaz was weaned and turned out to pasture with her friend Theodore. Topaz is always the highlight of every farm tour, and her fans remain dedicated to her by purchasing her holiday cards, bidding on her painting, and loving all over her when they come to visit.
Today is a day we had hoped for, but never really wanted to see, Topaz’s Adoption Day! Please join us as we wave goodbye to this precious girl. Topaz, we don’t have the words to describe how much you’ll be missed. As you leave today for your forever home, please know that you will always have a place here at KYEAC and in our hearts!
Sniff, sniff. I’m not crying. I’m not crying.
