Building a breeding is something that has been very rewarding for Melanie and I. Today I got to work the three yearlings that we are working to prepare for the IQHA Ranch Horse Futurity in short of 6 weeks. I ponied the three yearling fillies we raised by CD Dyna Cee and HQ Helluva Cat with Mel’s gelding HQ Lit Up Brazos “Chuck” and while we were trotting around the pen though the pen I couldn’t help but think about the five years of the IQHA Ranch Horse Futurity and where it started and how it has grown to as we approach our 6th show September 20-22. Chuck was the first High Money earning yearling in 2019 and went on to win money each year he was show there. He also is now an NRCHA money earner and AQHA point earner in Heading and Heeling. It’s super cool to be able to pull him out and put him to work doing something he wasn’t trained to do but is something that a truly broke horse can just do.

The filly pictured is his paternal sister HQ CD Shiney Lights “Merlot” who is out of the late Shiners Pearl who we just lost a few short weeks ago at the age of 22 due to colic. Yesterday her 3 yr old brother became a NRCHA money earner with Stephen Hutchins at the NCRCHA Futurity Herd work placing 3rd in a tough group of horses in their first time out.

The IQHA Ranch Horse Futurity hasn’t changed our breeding program but it sure has helped us have a fantastic building block for our young horses as they come up through the program on their way to becoming a good citizen. Before this Merlot would have been kicked out on pasture just hanging out to become big enough to ride. Now she is already a very respectful young horse that is super mindful of her handler. We look forward to seeing so many friends in Des Moines in a few short weeks and wish you luck as you work with your young horses this summer to try and get your share of the expected $125,000 plus in payout!!

As we roll into Futurity season it’s time to get those nominations paid up! All yearlings to four year olds by all of the HQ stallions are eligible to be nominated for the IQHA Ranch Horse Futurity. The 2024 Futurity has an anticipated payout of $125,000+ so do not hesitate on getting this done! Even if you don’t thinking you will be able to attend this years show but may show in the future you need to keep your offspring nominations paid up to avoid penalties!

All CT Show Me Your Guns have Riata nominations due on August 1st also! Please get these done asap so you can stay eligible for all of these great programs!

HUGE DAY!!!

HQ Top Gun is now an AQHA Champion!!

Halter Trainer John Kabeisman and Gunny just a few moments ago in Rapid City, SD! The is the 2nd AQHA Champion by AQHA World Champion and AQHA Champion CT Show Me Your Guns from his first two foal crops!

Gunny is currently leading the nation in the Performance Halter Stallions and in the top five of the open Heeling! And he is an AQHA Superhorse contender as well!

Huge thank you to John for getting it arranged to get Gunny after his Rope Horse Futurity last weekend and getting him out to Rapid to be able to get this wrapped up!! We will continue to have frozen semen available for your good mares wanting to breed to HQ Top Gun or fresh semen for his sire CT Show Me Your Guns!!!

Congratulations to Will and Luke Jones on sweeping Champion and Reserve in the Intermediate and Limited Heading of the ARHFA Event in Lincoln, Nebraska, today. Luke was aboard HQ Top Gun and won $5,880 with a new lifetime earnings of $28,182!! HQ Show Me The Spook ended up 6th in the open and 4th in the Limited earning $3,231.60 in his first ever ARHFA Event!! Both are by AQHA World Champion CT Show Me Your Guns!! HQ Top Gun is out of Music N Jewels and HQ Show Me The Spook is out of Wilma Gotta Gun!!

It is absolutely uncanny how much these two remind us of runs their daddy’s made 8 years ago! Luke Jones on the front end riding HQ Show Me The Spook x CT Show Me Your Guns and Cort Jones on the back side riding HQ Blondes Love Me x CD Dyna Cee!! This was in the open heading where Hugh (4) and Luke picked up 7 AQHA Points and were 3rd out of 73 head!! Hugh has only been to a few AQHA Shows and has that CT Show Me Yor Guns eye appeal for sure! Hugh is now qualified for Jr Heading with this run for the 2024 AQHA World Show!! We do havbe a weanling full brother to Hugh available!!

HQ Gunna Light It Up and Stephen Hutchins took control of a super tough cow down the fence yesterday in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the Western Derby marking a 219 down the fence in route to win the Reserve Championship in the Limited Open Derby. This brings Squiggles Life Time Earnings to $15,135 which moves her into 3rd place of the CD Dyna Cee’s!
