This grumpy goose was rescued with the sheriff from another bad situation. He was in a small wire cage next to a barn mired in mud. We didn't even know what color he was, being completely coated with mud. He could barely turn around. It took two days of baths before he turned white. He's pretty sassy happy now!
Another great story of overcoming disabilities is Roo. She was born to a feral neighborhood cat near Wahoo. Whereas her siblings were normal, Roo was born with cerebral palsy which has rendered her back legs shriveled and useless. Kind people who found her brought Roo to us for long term care. She has overcome her disabilities and motivates without any problems! She can even climb up furniture with ease using her front legs! Note: she will be making a public appearance this Friday morning at our local Fremont Hy-Vee 9:00-11:00am!
Bubbles the miniature cow came to us from a breeder in South Dakota . She lost her back foot as a baby due to unspecified injury. She was born on the range in a sizable herd with uneven hips, she would always have problems birthing, so her value dropped. He brought her to us instead of the butcher. Being a herd animal, she was very nervous until we put Ned the goat with her for companionship. She will live out her life here on the farm in comfort!
Guess who was born yesterday? Little Juniper (girl) was born yesterday morning to Chrissy and her friend Donkey. For those who follow us, she is the granddaughter of Abby who passed away last fall at the age of 26. Abby was born to a mother (Ruby) who was severely starved during her pregnancy. Abby was born crippled in her front legs and overcame that disability to live a full life. She was our inspiration to become a sanctuary for these special animals and Juniper will carry on her legacy and our mission! This is a very special day!
Note: she is only a few hours old in this video
Happy due-date to Clyde. He was born 2 months premature and had a positive vet visit yesterday! Today was supposed to be his birth-day! He's doing fantastic and awaiting your visit. His eyes were not developed and is blind, but excellent health otherwise!
Although we had diminished sunlight during the eclipse, the animals seemed unaware of any changes! They couldn't understand why I was coming around again!
Everyone wanted an update on little piglet! Well, Piglet is growing up fast! Doing very well and ornery!
Welcome Roo to the farm. Born with defective back legs hasn't slowed her down one bit! Growing like a weed and playful all day long, reminding us that the biggest disability is our perception! Happy New Year!
Welcome Roo to the farm! Born with defective back legs hasn't diminished her will to live a full life. Special thanks to the family who cared for her feral mother and siblings until she was weaned and brought her to us! This is another reminder to spay and neuter your pets as this was most likely the result of the inbreeding of the feral colony their neighbor harbored. They are now working to get the colony help.
It's always nice to have an assistant in preparation for winter!
The Old Poor Farm annual pumpkin drop has begun! Bring all of your old pumpkins out to the farm for the animals anytime before sunset to add to the collection by the barn!
Welcome Piglet to the farm! He was found at a rest stop by a good Samaritan and brought to the farm. It is assumed that he fell from a truck on the highway by the road rash injuries. He is healing and in good health. He is safe on the farm now.
The mini horses are trying to join in with the annual fall antique tractor run as they pass the farm this morning!
Update on the rescued girl who fell from the truck! As you see, she is so much better. Alert and moving well! Her ammonia burned rear end is healing and the side road rash is nearly gone! She's not so happy to see me, but doing very well!
Come out for some face painting!!
Come on out and see us!! We will be here until 5pm today. Open again tomorrow 10-5!
Had a few branches down from this morning's storm. Only damage done was flattening some of the flower garden. We are happy for that! Everything is cleaned up now!
Got some much needed rain this morning! Hopefully this means the drought is coming to an end! We've been drier than the dust bowl years!
