THE FLOOR IS COLD! Keep Your Pets Cozy With A New Bed Or Cot!

How Often Does My Pet’s Bed Need Replaced?

According to most experts, you should replace your dog's bed every 1-2 years, depending on the quality of the bed, your dog's size and activity level, but most importantly, when you notice signs of wear and tear like rips, lumps, or significant flattening of the mattress; cheaper beds may need replacing more frequently, like once a year.

Key points to consider:
Quality matters: Higher quality dog beds will last longer than cheaper ones.

Dog's needs: If your dog has health issues like arthritis, they may need a new bed more often to ensure proper support.

Check for signs of wear: Look for tears, lumps, flattened areas, or excessive smell to determine if it's time for a new bed.

WHAT IS TOO COLD FOR A DOG, DOG PAWS? WHAT ARE SOME SIGNS OF COLD INJURIES? Generally, temperatures below 32°F (0°C)are considered too cold for most dogs, especially for small breeds, older dogs, or those with thin coats, and temperatures below 20°F (-7°C) can put any dog at risk for hypothermia and frostbite; if it's too cold for you, it's likely too cold for your dog as well. Temperatures below 20°F can be too cold for dog paws, increasing the risk of frostbite and other cold injuries.

Signs of cold injury

* Shivering
* Whining
* Slowed down movement
* Holding up a paw
* Sluggishness
* Confusion
* Pale or cool skin

Other factors to consider
* Wind chill: Wind chill can make it feel colder than the actual temperature.
* Wet conditions: Rain or damp ground can make it colder for your dog.
* Sunlight: How sunny the day is can affect how cold it feels.
* Coat length: Short-haired dogs may struggle in colder temperatures than long-haired dogs.

Key points to remember:
* Above 45°F:Most dogs should be comfortable in this temperature range.
* Below 40°F:Some dogs, especially those with thin coats, may start to feel uncomfortable.
* Below 32°F:Small dogs, senior dogs, or dogs with thin coats should not be left outside for extended periods.
* Below 20°F:High risk of hypothermia and frostbite for all dogs, limit outdoor time significantly.
Factors to consider:
* Breed and coat type:Dogs with thick double coats can tolerate colder temperatures better than short-haired breeds.
* Age and health:Puppies, senior dogs, and dogs with underlying health conditions are more susceptible to cold stress.
* Activity level:If your dog is actively playing, they may tolerate colder temperatures for a short time. What to do in cold weather:
* Dress your dog: Consider a dog coat or sweater for cold weather walks, especially if your dog has a thin coat.
* Limit outdoor time: Keep walks short and focused on necessary bathroom breaks.
* Monitor for signs of discomfort: Watch for shivering, whining, paw lifting, or reluctance to go outside.
* Provide warm shelter: Ensure your dog has access to a warm, dry area inside when not actively playing outside.

How to protect your dog's paws
* Use booties: Dog-friendly booties can protect your dog's paws from cold, salt, and ice-melting chemicals.
* Apply paw balm: Paw balm can help prevent cracks and dryness.
* Monitor your dog: Keep a close eye on your dog's behavior and bring them inside if they seem uncomfortable.
* Limit outdoor time: If it's very cold, limit how long your dog spends outside.
* Check for injuries: After a walk, check your dog's paws for any signs of injury or discomfort.
