Howdy folks!🤠

Thank you all for keeping in touch and keeping me busy for the past few months. My job is such a blessing, especially when my family can join me. Summer break is fun for everyone, especially when I have a slow day and can have extra snuggles with your fur babies💕

Let’s keep this trend going! I have several openings in July and August. Let outs are my most popular option, but I also offer overnight stays for anyone within a 30 minute drive from Nokesville (with the exception of my current clients). Overnights require my husband and pup to have the option to stay with me. Remember, you can always cancel, but you can’t always hop on your sitter’s schedule last minute. Book sooner than later, or just send me a DM with your vacation dates to see my availability. My goal is to keep this part of planning a trip super simple and easy.

Talks soon!🥰

I’ll go first…
This is pipsqueak, one of my three day old golden layer ducklings. Pipsqueak has a lot of energy. She loves to run through tunnels, over obstacles, and bulldoze into her sibling at full speed. After her energy dump, she loves to nap in the sun, versus under the heat lamp. She’ll sprawl out and stretch her widdle feets as far as them as far as they can reach.

Time for a serious talk…

It has come to my attention that I’ve never publicly spoken about how overnight stays work in my business. Or more specifically, how my husband and pup are involved.

The whole reason why I started Abby’s Farm and House Sitting was because I was tired of being away from my family and I hated working for someone else. Having a job that includes my husband and dog sounded perfect to me. Now, I haven’t publicly spoken about this because it seemed obvious to me since I post about them every chance I get. However, it seems like more and more potential clients aren’t aware that Honey and Chad travel with me to ALL overnight stays.

I’m aware I could have so many more clients if I didn’t make this decision. However, being with my family is much more important to me than money.
Remember, this only applies to overnight stays, not let outs.

If you don’t know yet, my husband and I got married in September 2023. We match each other perfectly with all of our strengths and weaknesses. I’m great at talking with folks, organization, farming, improvising queen, dreaming and making things happen. He’s amazing at building or fixing anything, especially if it has a motor. He’s also fantastic at farming, hunting, thinking practically, and is quiet until he gets to know you. Honey has been my saving grace for the last 6.5 years. She is as sweet as honey, lazy, snuggly, mildly active, and intelligent… until she turns that part of her brain off. She was raised on our farm with dogs, cats, goats, chickens, ducks, and horses. Before the sitting era, we would go to friends' farms where she would interact with hogs, cattle, geese, sheep, rabbits, and donkeys. All of which she has never had an issue with. She respects their space and almost never even pays attention to them. On top of this, I’ve always been out with her when we’re at someone else’s farm. At home, she can run free with all my animals. She loves them and they love her.
I have stacks of references from people who would LOVE to speak on our behalf and tell you about their experience with us.

If you’re new here and don’t believe we are the right fit, I won’t take offense. My family is my number one priority, yours should be too. If we have the honor of meeting, let me know if you’d like Honey to tag along too, so you can meet her.
Thank you for your understanding and taking the time to read this. We look forward to making new friendships and creating bonds through our shared love of animals.

With love, Abby Lomax

Remember to book your sitters before booking flights. Sitters book up fast. In fact, I’m fully booked for overnight stays over each upcoming holiday. However, I have plenty of availability for let outs.

What are let outs? Let outs provide the comfort of knowing your animals are taken care of and loved on without having someone sleep in your home. You can choose up to 4x let outs a day and 3x let outs on major holidays. Playtime, medication, exercise, snuggles, etc all included.

Message me now to create a meet and greet and book your dates!

🎉Yesterday was our sweet girls 7th birthday!🎉

The day I brought her home (without permission😅) was the day I grew the most. Not only the full responsibility of a living animal glued to my side day after day, but also the dedication to help her heal from past her trauma. As challenging as it felt then, the reward has been much greater. Honey has changed my life, as well as all those who have met her. She has poured her heart into everything she has accomplished. She is intelligent, goofy, playful, and very very snuggly. I couldn’t have asked for a better best friend.

If there’s one piece of advice I could offer to anyone thinking of getting a dog, specifically a Pitbull… Don’t judge a book by its cover. Pour you’re entire heart into that dog, because they will return with 100x more love. Don’t listen to all those who will try to turn you away from their breed because of what they’ve heard. I promise it’s worth it.

The last 6 years of ownership of my baby girl has been absolutely magical. We’re excited to continue our incredible adventure for years to come.

Happy birthday Honey girl😘

Happy Bleated Halloween!!!

We hope everyone has had a fun, safe and spooky holiday. Honey, Chad and I spent the evening watching trashy tv and eating way too much ice cream. It was a perfect way to reconnect before we tackle a busy few weeks ahead.

We would love to see you and your animals outfits if y’all dressed up! Can’t wait😝

🦃Who’s ready for Thanksgiving??🦃

I’m taking on THREE more let out clients Thanksgiving. They will fill fast, so hurry if you can!

What are let outs?

Let outs are drop in visits for any animal. Between 15-30 minutes of feeding, grooming, playtime, walks, etc. Rates very depending if you have a single lizard or a full working farm, obviously. I can visit up to 4x a day on normal day, and 3x per day on Holidays. You choose what fits your animals routine best.

How do we make this happen?

Let’s set up a meet and greet!
Meet and greets are $25 dollars to cover my time and diesel. We will meet each other, meet your animals and go through your routine. The point is to make sure we’re the right fit for each other, your animals are comfortable with me (and vice versa), and to visually see how you’ve created their cozy environment. My objective is to make your animals feel at ease while your away. I also learn a lot about your animals. Like their favorite toys, tricks, grooming techniques and favorite scratch spots. This helps me give your babies the best time possible.

Since my previous post, 2024 scheduled has already started to fill up. I’m only accepting spring bookings for now, however there’s a lot to do in spring. Its the best weather to go on a trip somewhere warm and sunny. It’s the best scenario: I stay employed and you escape the cold!

“What’s for dinner?” - Lucy

Lucy is the sweetest great pyrenees I’ve ever met! She’s the definition of a “gentle giant.” Her favorite game is catch, but not fetch. Her favorite scratch spot is on his belly. And her overall favorite activity is constantly barking into the bliss.

She begs to go outside to sit in the cold, crisp mountain air every morning and evening. She’ll let the world know she’s there, then just sit.

Lucy is a very good girl!

Let me introduce you to two of my favorite, strong, beautiful, women.

Erica Gore of Hock Newberry Farm and Abigail Compton of Compton Family Farm.

These two women raised, nurtured, protected, butchered and donated chicken and pork for our wedding last weekend. Let me tell you… Through all the nerves and distractions, Chad and I went back for thirds!

I met Erica when I was very young. She had the dream and we had the goats. From a small homestead, to a working, prospering farm, Erica has met the needs of all those around her by feeding them the best of the best.
She now offers chicken, pork, eggs, turkeys, goat milk share and handmade and hand grown salves.

Abigail was introduced to me by Erica. She needed a trusted farm sitter. Now, we’re great friends! Her farm is still new, but BOY is it growing fast! She’s offering chickens, chicken eggs and turkeys to the public in the near future. Possibly pork too if all goes to plan. Stay tuned!!

Both farms provide their animals with nothing but the best. Non-GMO, organic, free range and zero hormones. It’s easy to buy cheap meats from the store. But it’s very hard (sometimes impossible) for your body to process all the added hormones and unhealthy feed ingredients. However, buying directly from a small farmer, asking them detailed questions and even touring their farm, you have the chance to get to know what you’re putting into your body. This is SO important!!

So how can you help these small business and badass farmers?

For Erica, you can contact her via her Facebook, Hock Newberry Farm, or meet her at one of her many farmers market locations:
- On the farm in Culpeper by appointment 7 days a week
- Marshall Farmers Market, Fridays from 4pm-7pm
- Culpeper Downtown Farmers Market, Saturdays from 7:30am-noon
- City of Manassas Farmers Market, Saturdays from 8am-1pm
- Archwood Green Barns Farmers Market in The Plains, Sundays from 10am-2pm

Abigail is still growing her farm and platform, so there’s no farmers market locations yet. However, she would love to hear from you via her facebook, Compton Family Farm. Catch up on the latest details on meat orders, availability and how you can get involved as they grow.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to both of you strong, INCREDIBLE women!!! ❤️

How crazy is it that we’ve been married for almost a whole WEEK??? Pictures coming soon😉

As many of y’all know, farm and house sitting is my full time job. Chad and I weren’t sure if we would continue my business passed our wedding, but our first property opportunity didn’t work out. So we switched my end date to January. Now it’s looking like we may continue for a while longer, even though we may have another possible prospect. To add some reassurance, if we are blessed enough to buy this property, I will still farm and house sit for a while after. I’m a great multitasker😊
So for now, let’s keep filling the calendar with more exciting adventures!!

October is packed FULL, however November - January has many openings. Remember to book for the holidays, birthday and anniversary trips. Let’s not forget the perfect season for camping adventures too! Book FAST, sitters fill up during this season.

Talk soon!
Sincerely,
The new, Abby Lomax💕😝

Hey folks, I’m still here!

Things in my life have been difficult to navigate.
It’s been 2 months since my fathers passing, 9 days until our wedding. I’ve experienced every emotion in between. Some days are easier than others, but fortunately, it seems like I’m on the mend.
Chad knows first hand what I’ve been going through. He continues to support me and bend over backwards to make my business and magical wedding come true. Without him, I don’t know where I’d be. Probably no where good. I’m eternally grateful for him❤️

I haven’t stopped working full time and bringing on new clients. I’ve been trying to write this post for a long time. It’s more difficult than it should be.

Anyway, to keep myself employed and focused on the good, here are some updates on my availability for the upcoming months:

September- BOOKED/ NO OPENINGS
October - Let outs only until 10/15. Accepting overnight stays the rest of the month.
November and December are filling fast for the holidays. Get in now while you still can!

Even now, I still appreciate everyones patience. It’s tough balancing everything. I’m so thankful for all my sweet clients who have reach out, talked with me and sent flowers. Y’all are the best❤️

In the midst of all my schedule, happy, promotional posts, we had a tragic accident who has left my family and the surrounding community devastated.

My father was driving north down RT29, less an 5 miles from his home. All was well until a tractor trailer pulled out from a gas station, attempting to cross 2 lanes of traffic to head southbound. My father didn’t have enough time to stop…
He was pronounced dead on arrival.
July 19, 2023 my father lost his life at 57 years of age.

He leaves behind a large grieving family, hundreds of friends and thousands in the community who all loved him and will miss him dearly.

If you knew my father, Pablo, or if you’d like to pay your respects, please join us at Warrenton Presbyterian Church, in Warrenton, VA. The celebration will continue from 3pm-6pm.

Please have patience. Not only am I going through my own grieving process, I’m also receiving a lot of messages (like hundreds a day) in addition to making his decision with my siblings.

I will respond as soon as I can. Until then, please have patience!💕

I’m usually always available for let outs, but overnight stays book up fast. I mean insanely fast!!
If you want an overnight spot, contact me now. I’ll even pencil you in and contact you if someone else is interested. You’ll get first dibs, but if you cannot commit in that moment, your spot will be given to the next available person.

** This excludes September 17th - October 1st. I’m getting married and honeymooning over those weeks. **

I’ll also note that though it may seem silly, some people have still asked me to do let outs for them within that time period. Please don’t ask, the answer will still be no😂 I’ll be available anytime before 9/17 or after 10/1.

Story Time!

Did you know I grew up on a small farm, milking goats and chasing our 400 free range chickens? We also had numerous other animals too, but these particular animals made the biggest difference in my life. There’s nothing that will teach a kid more about responsibility than farm life. In my opinion, running around barefoot, using their imagination and creating bonds with animals is crucial.

As a child I NEVER got sick. I still believe it was because we only ate what we grew and harvested. Unpasteurized, GMO free, organic and only consuming natural sugars. Contrary to what the world believes, I had also NEVER been vaccinated for anything besides the first or second shots you receive has an infant. This is still true to this day. My bones were strong, my heart was healthy and my skin and hair were showing all the signs of a extraordinarily healthy immune system.

After our farm dwindled, I started getting sick. Seasonal colds weren’t normal for me. I had never had the flu (I still haven’t), I also never had trouble eating or being mobile. In the past several years, I have had a few major health issues. One particular illness caused me to stop eating and constantly sleep. I would survive off of 1-2 meals a week and couldn’t stay awake for more than 2 hours. I was also forced to drop out of high school due to the schools inability to understand my condition. Truancy officers, police and child protective service were constantly knocking at my door. They threatened my single mother with jail time if I didn’t go back to school. So, I dropped out.

Oddly enough, after visiting 6 specialty doctors and months of waiting, no one could fix me. Two doctors said I had cancer, others said I was faking it. Only one person diagnosed me and saved my life after seeing me for 2 hours. She even let me nap in her office because my body literally could not stay awake. This person is a homeopathic doctor. No man made medicine, no more blood analysis or IVs in my arms. Just natures perfect concoction!

To this day, I still have trouble eating, or even remembering to eat. Sometimes I’ll go days without food and hear it from my fiancé when he finally notices. All my illnesses were ultimately resolved, but after the homeopathic doctor explaining that I would’ve only had 6 months left to live and my body was in such disarray, I decided to stop, reevaluate and restart the farm.

Now, along side my business of taking care of others animals, I too have my own farm. It’s small, but it’s growing fast!

My fiancé and I are still vigorously hunting for our forever property. Once we find it, we’ve decided to let our dreams reveal themselves. We’ll transport our current animals, then add to the farm. We’re thinking every land animal we can get our hands on, fruit trees and berry bushes, a giant garden, waterfowl, plenty of hunting land and of course, a pond or other water source with fish.

Somehow, in the madness of my life, I’ve still held at least two jobs at once, besides taking a much needed break right before my life being saved. I tried taking my GED, but bills started stacking up. Once I wasn’t able to pay for dog food, I quit. Now that the pressure of family and complete strangers telling me I NEED to get my GED have subsided, and the constant chant of “your life will be nothing without a diploma” have also ceased, I’m more inclined to try it again. In fact, my fiancé and I plan to complete it together!

The moral of my story is to look closely into what actually matters. Your food, your environment, your doctors and your all around nutrition. Vitamins won’t make a difference without the right nutrition to back it up. Try growing your own food and raising your own meat. Or buy from your local farmers, just make sure you ask how it’s grown/ raised. Yes, it’s more expensive, but you pay for what you get. Check your feed, grass sprays (maybe even your neighbors sprays too), even check your water supply. I’m no preacher, I’ve just lived through hell. I would never wish that on anyone!
Don’t spend money on unhealthy food, because I promise , the end result isn’t worth it. Oh and, try homeopathy some time. There’s something for everyone!

Anyway, this is the end of my story.
Talk soon!
