Capistrano August Dressage Show
Cousins and competition weekend! Dressage test by day followed by movie and dinner nights with the family. My cousin’s daughter even volunteered to groom for me and we had a lovely day with the Fergster🐴 Fergie is still building strength at 2nd level but I was pleased we picked up some scores in the 60’s.

CDS San Diego Road to Championships 7/18-7/20
Glad to be back in Del Mar🌞🌊 Fergie decided to give me daily brain massages during class breaks. Between her self appointed barn security duties, she rode well in her dressage test. She also could not decide on which ribbon she liked the most, so we brought home 3 different color options.

USAWE Train to Win Clinic
Thank you Christy Reich, Kellee Campbell and Kiki Pantaze for all your time and effort to provide the Working Equitation community with the Train to Win clinic series. Thank you WAWE Judge José Andrès Benito for your enthusiastic teaching and skillful eye during all 3 days of the informative clinic. You helped us align our eyes to the International standards of the sport through each dressage and obstacle ride. Last but not least, thank you to every rider in the clinic that allowed us to be apart of your learning journey🐎I appreciate your effort and determination to master each task at hand while in front of an audience. Each rider and auditor left with information to share with our Working Equitation community 😃

Enjoyed a wonderful Memorial Day weekend at the El Campeon Farms Stars and Stripes Working Equitation show! A big thank you to Christy Reich, Abigail Followill, El Campeon staff, show workers and the volunteers who knocked out another stellar show🤩 The president of the jury was WAWE Judge José Andrès Benito from Spain & USAWE “S” Judge Doreen Atkinson (WAWE judge candidate). I enjoyed a lovely front row seat while fulfilling my silent judging requirements. The always smiling Leslie Martien and Kris Blacklock would pick up our test after each ride, calculate them and have our scores set up on a spread sheet for end of day discussion . Those wonderful discussions consisted of Judge José Andrès Benito reviewing each movement of a riders test and comparing our scores/comments with his. Thank you José for taking the time after each show day to help us calibrate our brains to international judging standards.

Cheers to Summer Dressage Show
If you know the journey of Fergie and I then you understand the overwhelming feeling of joy trotting down centerline at Galway🤩 Thankful to have my wonderful friends who were cheerleaders and grooms! It takes an amazing village to maintain show horses. Thank you to the body workers, farriers, vets and clinicians (everyone needs eyes on the ground) who got us here. We showed at second level and each ride was better than the next. I adore my partner Fergialious and thank her daily for giving me wings to soar❣️

CAWDA Spring Fling
Congratulations to Brenna & Karma on their first Western Dressage show! These two have been growing as partners the past few months. Karma scored a 66.5% in Intro test 1 & 65% Intro test 2. Just because the show was online it does not make it easy. These judges have pause, rewind and fast forward buttons😱 Congratulations to fellow teammate Colleen & Mustang Sally for navigating through their new test 4 and scoring in the mid 60s🎉 A big thank you to our videographer Victoria Gabay😃

It takes patience and persistence😃

I read a theory about why so many riders lack a deep command of basics, and it was explained like this---

Correct basics are hard to master because there is an enormous amount of repetition involved, and if someone has tried something hundreds, possibly thousands of times, and still can’t do it, it is easy for the person to conclude that he/she is taking on an impossible challenge.

In his book “Mastery,” George Leonard wrote that on the quest to become good, there will be long stretches of “seeming non-improvement.”

Like watching grass grow, change is happening, but so slowly that it can’t be measured daily, weekly, or even monthly. But at some point, for those who stick with it, “suddenly” they can do things that before they couldn’t do.

The issue is giving up in frustration before putting in those many many many many months of practice.

That is ONE theory. I am sure there are many others, but this one does ring true.
