It's today were coming in with some more fun facts about horses to keep in your back pocket for trivia night! We love sharing knowledge about our wonderful equine friends!
1)Horses with pink skin can get a sunburn.
2)Horses in a herd (especially wild horses) will not lie down simultaneously.
3)Most of the time, wherever a horse's ear is pointing is where the horse is looking with the eye on the same side.
4)Horses use their ears, eyes, and nostrils to express their mood.
5) Horses remember a lot.

It's ! Today we are thankful for all the riders that came out this past weekend for our celebration! We are ever so thankful that Cleopatras filly is doing well (book your ride now for a chance to see Cleo and her precious filly)

We are as always thankful for the continued opportunity to bring in these horses from the feedlot and give them a second chance. We would like to share with you some of our horses from when they first got here to where they are now!

Our first horse is Stella who came to us very underweight and in poor condition, we nursed her back to health and put lots of good feed in her and she takes out kids as young as 7. Our second horse featured this week is our Percheron mare Melody, who also came to us in poor condition and very underweight and is now a staff and guest favorite!

We would like to note that these were taken well before her mareternity leave while her main job right now is growing us a cute little gypsy foal! Ms. Mahi is a multi talented woman who also rides and drives! Stay tuned to see when her precious foal gets here!

Since our celebration is over we would like to spread some equine care knowledge we are going to start where we share some fun farrier and hoof facts!

1) Like human finger and toenails, a horse’s hooves grow continuously.

2) In just one month, the average hoof gains a quarter-inch or more.

3) On rocky surfaces, horses can naturally file their hooves to a safe length, but when horses wear shoes, or spend most of their time on softer surfaces, they need specialized care to keep them comfortable.

4) All horses require regular hoof care, but not all horses need horseshoes!

5) For many horses, only regular trims are necessary for maintaining healthy hoof length and shape.

We have an exciting new addition to the S&D Ranch! Cleopatra blessed us with a beautiful little filly! We are so excited about this little lady! Just in time for our celebration!
