🎉🐾Join us for the Salty Dog Walk on March 23, 2025! Grab your pups and meet us at Cape View Avenue Beach at 11:00 AM for a scenic walk down to 3rd Bay and back—followed by the ultimate after-party presented by 97.3 The Eagle at The Bold Mariner, 1901 E. Ocean View Avenue, Norfolk! 🌊🐶

Clifford is doing so much better he got his first bath yesterday and is now in a loving medical foster home until he is healed for his neuter and adoption!! Animals are simply incredible! And so is our staff!!

Thanks to your donations Clifford was able to get life saving plasma and serum for his eye and for his edema (swelling) he is able to walk for short stints and can sit! He is teaching us that even though humans have hurt him, dogs have the purest of hearts. He loves chicken but only from your hand ❤️ he is fighting and we are so grateful for all of you who are helping!

Updates on Red and Roadblock

Red’s Journey Home: A Second Chance Thanks to You
Red’s story is one of resilience, compassion, and the power of community. After being adopted from the Norfolk SPCA as a puppy, Red was recently surrendered when his family could no longer afford the costly diagnostics needed to determine his illness. Upon his return to our care, our medical team performed x-rays and discovered he was battling a severe case of pneumonia—his condition was critical. Thanks to your generous support and the dedication of our veterinary staff, Red received the lifesaving treatment he desperately needed. Today, we’re thrilled to share that Red has made a full recovery and is back where he belongs—with his loving family.

Roadblock is Recuperating and Available for Adoption

Roadblock has successfully undergone lifesaving surgery to correct his elongated soft palate and his stenotic nares, as well as his neuter and is recovering well. Thanks to our amazing veterinary partner, Dr. Turner, he's feeling much better and is now available for adoption.

A Story of Loss and Hope

💔 Meet Clifford and Cleo – two innocent souls found abandoned on a set of railroad tracks, clinging to life were brought to the Norfolk SPCA by two concerned citizens who trusted us. They were wrapped in separate blankets, broken but not entirely lost.
When I first held Cleo, her little tail gave a tiny wag—her way of telling me that she knew she was in loving arms and she was safe. Sadly, despite all our efforts and the tireless work of our amazing veterinarian team, Cleo’s injuries were too much for her little body. After exhausting every possible option, we made the heart-wrenching decision to let her go, giving her peace at last.
But then there was Clifford. As we shifted our focus to him, we were met with an overwhelming sight. His body was too swollen to walk, his wounds covered him from head to paw, and one of his eyes has a severe injury. But through all the pain and brokenness, we could see a glimmer of hope. His spirit, despite everything, still shone brightly.
Clifford is still fighting—fighting for a chance, for a future, for love. He needs urgent medical care, and we can’t do it alone. We need your help to provide the treatment he desperately needs and to continue saving dogs just like Clifford and all the others in our care.
Every donation helps. The Norfolk SPCA is a community asset with zero city, state, or federal funding. We handle emergencies every day and we are proud to be a safe haven for animals. We cannot do it without your support.
No amount is too small, and every dollar will go directly towards Clifford’s care and the rescue of more animals in need. Please skip your cup of coffee, or make a sandwich and not order lunch out this week in support of these sweet souls that need you.

For the past few years, Pat Howarth has gone above and beyond for the Norfolk SPCA by collecting and recycling cans, then generously donating the proceeds back to support our shelter animals. That’s double duty—helping both our furry friends and the environment! ♻️🐾

As this will be Pat’s last year running the recycling program, we want to express our deepest gratitude for her dedication, kindness, and hard work. Her efforts have made a lasting impact, and we are so thankful for all she has done! ❤️
