πŸŽ† Do fireworks freak out your dog? Here's a tip we like to share:

Try playing a simple noise game to associate the sounds of fireworks with good things. Start by playing a video of fireworks at a low volume and feed your dog treats while the video plays. Pause the video and stop the treats. Then repeat. Slowly increase the volume at your dog's comfort level.

Remember, order matters! Noise first, then treats. Never treats, then noise.

Playing this game early and often in little spurts helps your dog prepare for the big day and reframes their associations with firework sounds.

If you have a fearful dog that struggles with the big wide world, we can help. Training builds your dog's confidence and a pro can help your dog make progress towards conquering their fears. Tap the link in our bio for you free consultation and start boosting your dog's confidence today.

This skills helps our clients have dogs who can settle when they have guests over, when they go out to a patio, or even when they stop to chat with their neighbor during a walk.

😞 Tired of leash pulling? Here's a tip we like to share:

Start your leash training inside the house first. When you first start working on leash manners, the big wide world can provide too many distractions. If you're having trouble getting your dog to focus on tasks even inside, reach out to us. At Really Good Pets, we love helping dogs reach their potential and getting our clients and dogs on the same page. It's so relieving when you feel like you can communicate with your dog.

😞 Tired of leash pulling? Here's a tip we like to share:

Try giving your dog recess first. While a walk can be great exercise for you, it may not meet your dog's cardio needs. Before trying to train leash walking or going out for a training walk, try throwing the ball, playing tug, or running around with your dog. Many dogs need a physical energy burst out of the way before they can slow down to our pace and walk with us. Meeting these needs can make your leash walk more pleasant.

If the thought of playing with your dog has you anticipating bruises and scrapes, reach out to us. At Really Good Pets, we can help with play manners as well as leash walking. Playing with your dog should be fun for you both.

😞 Tired of leash pulling? Here's a tip we like to share:

Start getting your dog's leash out throughout the day. Many dogs start to go bananas when the leash comes out. Getting their leash out frequently with no fuss on your end is a great way for the leash to become more normal.

Make it easy on yourself and practice taking your dog's leash out and setting it on the counter, then putting it right back. Slowly work your way up to attaching your dog's leash and letting them drag it around the house with supervision.

If you feel like your dog is still having trouble settling down when they see their leash and are in danger of spinning out of control, reach out to us at Really Good Pets. We help many people and their dogs get back to loving their walks together.

πŸ–οΈ Are you thinking about boarding your dog for an upcoming vacation? Here's an important tip we like to share:

Once you have picked out a place, let your dog do some test runs before the big trip. Being at a new place can be a bit overwhelming at first, and letting your dog dip their toes in is much better than throwing them in the deep end.

A good way to trial run a boarding place is to let your dog stay for a partial day or a slumber party while you're still in town. This can allow them to get to know the staff and experience the fun, but not get too overwhelmed when you leave them for a few days. Some dogs benefit from a couple partial days and then an overnight, while others can jump right in to an overnight stay. If you're unsure of the pace you should take, talk to your trainer about options.

Letting your pup adjust and then getting feedback from the staff is a great way to make sure your dog learns about all the fun things they get to do while you're on vacation. It can give you peace of mind that they are enjoying themselves and will be excited to stay with all their friends while you're away.

πŸ–οΈ Are you thinking about boarding your dog for an upcoming vacation? Here's an important tip for choosing the right place:

Make sure to ask questions about dog playgroups if you choose a boarding location that does doggy daycare. Dogs being able to play while you're away can be great exercise and social enrichment for them.

Questions to ask include:
πŸ“š What training does the staff receive on dog body language and play manners?
πŸ“ˆ How does the staff assess a dog for playgroup?
πŸ₯Ž How does the staff set up playgroups? Are dogs separated by size and temperament?
πŸ§‘ What is the ratio of dogs to humans in a play yard?
🐢 What is the maximum number of dogs in a playgroup and what size is the space they play in?

Memorial day is the start of busy boarding season! Get started early on your search for the right place. If you have concerns about boarding your dog, talk to your trainer about solutions. Your trainer can help you look at your dog's needs and come up with creative solutions to make your dog more comfortable.
