I received a call at 7:50 this morning from a citizen named Daniel who saw a kitten crawling into a grass area off of West Rock Creek Road. He stopped and watched it until I arrived on scene. It was lucky that Daniel spotted this kitten because its coloring blends into the brown grass and the outside temperature was 23 degrees.

When I arrived, I was able to walk up to the kitten and pick it up.
Dr. Devine was able to see the kitten and give it an exam which included radiographs. Luckily, we believe the kitten just has soft tissue injures, no broken bones. The kitten will need bed rest and socialization as it is a feral kitten. I named the kitten, Dani, in honor of the citizen that spotted her and most certainly saved her life as she would have laid in the field for days and froze to death.

Confirmation has been made that TJ is making use of the heated houses. This afternoon, upon returning home from errands, I observed him exiting the house as I arrived.

Earlier than usual, I got up and saw TJ just outside the heated house. I am certain that he was inside initially and stepped out upon hearing me come outside to see what was happening.

This morning, both boys arrived. (It has been at least a week since I last saw Thomas). Given that Thomas now permits me to hold him for 1-2 minutes, I picked him up and brought him inside to escape the impending bitter cold for the next few days. He is currently in one of the kennels, and I am certain he is displeased. The thought of him in the arctic cold was concerning despite knowing he has access to warm, safe areas.

TJ will not let me pick him up long enough to get him inside. He does have the heated houses available to him.

The arctic blast is coming! One more warm day today, then a strong front moves through this afternoon/evening. Tomorrow's highs will be 20-30 degrees colder than today's. Lows will be in the single digits and teens again by tomorrow night. Get ready to bundle up.

Upon my morning check of the cats in their kennels, these two were looking innocent and sweet. But the kennel was in a state of disarray, with the water bowl dumped and litter kicked out of the litter box.

Interstate Princess Update! 🐾

We’re thrilled to share that our resilient girl, Interstate Princess, continues to amaze us! She’s thriving even in the chilly winter weather, having braved the recent cold snap with flying colors. This brave girl is starting to open up to one of her rescuers, Kim from Hands Helping Paws.

She’s showing signs of trust, letting Kim get within a few feet of her—an incredible step forward! While it’s still too soon to “throw a lead” on her, every little victory matters, and we couldn’t be prouder of her progress.

Here are some heartwarming photos of Princess from the last couple of days, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the straw. Her journey is a testament to the power of patience, love, and persistence!

Princess will need continued care as she moves toward the next steps in her rescue journey, including:
• Vaccinations
• Spay surgery (if not already spayed)
• Blood work, including a heartworm test and treatment if needed

Once she is safely in our care, has had time to decompress, and her behavior has been evaluated. At that point, we will share updates and announce when foster applications will open until then:

Temperatures are expected to drop soon. If you have outdoor animals that cannot be brought inside, ensure their shelter is secure and stock up on straw before supplies run out.

Temperatures will moderate this week, but another blast of cold air is expected to arrive by next weekend. A gusty northerly wind will make it feel even colder. At this time, little if any precipitation is expected.

TJ has been by to eat during all the cold but haven’t seen Thomas. Hoping he has a warm place and the neighbors are feeding him.
