It is with profound sadness and grief that we announce that Max has passed away peacefully today from metastic lung cancer. Many of you know him as the model in our DogSheetz promo and in fact, he is in the photos of the official trademark and patent filings. Not only was he a sweet boy, but one of the best dogs ever. I never had a problem with him, he frequently helped me train other peoples dogs. He will be loved and missed so dearly. I cannot express the sadness we are feeling right now so some answers to emails and chats may go a while before being answered this week as we begin the grieving process. I hope that someday I’ll get to see Max again but I know that he is sniffing everything in heaven right now and is having a blast. We welcome any and all prayers. Thank you.

Yesterday on my birthday we found out that our baby, Max, has stage 4 lung cancer. He has about 6 tumors in his lungs. We are giving him some steroids, antibiotic, and lasix to make him comfortable. The doctor said he could have a week or up to 6 months to live depending on how he does on these meds. So, we will stay focused on making sure he knows he is loved beyond words. Please pray for us, as this is hurting our hearts more than I think people know. He is more than just a dog, he is family and our youngest baby.

While we were in Arizona in the mountains for our Christmas vacation. The day before we left, Rowdy fell off of a recliner footstool and landed on his belly on hard wood floor. It was bad enough he screamed solid and Brandon tried to help him up and he screamed harder and louder. We took him to the emergency vet and no broken bones but he does have a slipped disc. He had a slight delay in correcting his hind legs proprioception. But he is able to walk so the emergency vet told us to give 4 weeks of cage rest. Like…don’t let him do anything practically. So…now he is on gabapentin and on strict cage rest. He is going bananas. He is a Jack Russell and his name is Rowdy for a reason. I keep sedating the crap out of him but even then he has tried to jump with excitement twice. Anyway, please pray for his speedy recovery y’all. Has anyone had to do strict cage rest? What did you all do to keep them from jumping and getting too happy.

Walking off leash is possible using positive reinforcement training techniques. Start small and work you’re way up. Also, stay tuned to the last part of this video where we had to pack out what we brought in. 😂 lol

Nooch Puffs! New doggie cheeto type of treat! They were a huge hit and we will be using them at the training studio. Since we have senior dogs, I'm always looking for treats that they can have with minimal teeth. These are melt in your mouth soft with a little bit of crunch. The boys loved them!

This popped up in my iPhone memories. We were on our way to Sante Fe New Mexico and stopped in Shamrock to charge our . We will take you all along on our vacation at Christmas too! Anybody else been to this little gas station? It has a really cute museum and they welcome dogs! Another way to incorporate your dog into your life. Do you take your dogs with you on vacation?

This year, I have been on TOP of my Christmas shopping. Like, I'm already 50% done so far. One thing that has been driving me NUTS has been; when a package is delivered and the brand name is printed on the outside of the box and my loved ones can figure out what their gift is! So...I'm not sure how often people buy DogSheetz as gifts, but I'm thinking of taking off our branding of DogSheetz till after Christmas. What do you all think?

Max's eye removal surgery had some complications, but he is all healed up finally! The prosthesis silicone ball in his eye socket really helps to preserve his little facial expressions. Watching your baby hurt like that for so long and then grieving how his life is going to change when the eye is removed and as he continues into old age, has so far been one of the hardest things I have had to do as a fur-baby dad. So glad the Lord and a doggie ophthalmologist healed him, now we can get back to hiking and doing things!

Rowdy was being a bouncy, in-my-face, 15 year old Jack Russell today. That means only one thing...it's time to get my walking shoes on and go exercise! Thanks, buddy for reminding me to take my health seriously.

See how I walk my dogs when we go for walks? You can train your dogs to do the same thing. Notice how Max (the yorkie) stops at a certain distance and turns around to look for me? That is what you want. The white dog (Rowdy) has a little longer distance, but he needs to work on the feeling when the distance has gotten too far. What complicates matters with him is that he can't hear very well and he has the beginning of doggie dementia so I make a little more allowance for him when we are in a safe location. Can you do this with your dog?
