🌸 This week, I had the joy of teaching a group of young children how to make pressed flower ornaments, and it was pure magic. While the flowers we used weren’t foraged, we took a moment to reflect on the best philosophy for foraging and creating art with nature.
The kids came up with this incredible list of foraging principles:
✨ Only collect if in abundance to leave plenty for pollinators.
✨ If it’s fallen, it can be collected.
✨ Thank the earth for her gifts.
✨ Cut from the stem to let roots and seeds continue to thrive.
✨ Plant more to give back to the earth.
✨ Pick only what you can confidently identify.
✨ Always ask for permission before picking.
✨ Be a part of the solution to care for our world.
Hearing their thoughtful ideas warmed my heart and reminded me that these young stewards are already paving the way for a kinder, more mindful relationship with the natural world.
