🚨 A fatal canine respiratory illness has been reported in the US. Keep your babies safe by limiting contact with other dogs. Use caution when visiting dog parks, groomers, daycare etc. If your pet is experiencing any of these symptoms please seek veterinary care immediately. Some pet owners are opting to completely eliminate contact with dogs that do not live in their primary residence. Owners are opting to suspend visits to groomers, daycare, parks, etc. to decrease the risk of infection. This illness is extremely contagious and there have been many fatal cases.

Does your pet have allergies? Sweet Dolo does too! He comes in monthly to see us for a cytopoint injection. Cytopoint is a 30 day anti itch injection that may help your pets with their allergies! Dolo doesn’t mind his shot at all as you can see! 🐾💙 It’s also very important that you keep your pets up to date on flea and tick prevention especially if they have allergies! 🩺

🚨OUTBREAK ALERT!🚨
A Leptospirosis (Lepto) Outbreak has been reported from Pet Disease Alerts (a Nonprofit Organization that tracks reports of pet diseases) and Charleston County has been listed as one of the hotspots with active Lepto cases.

Leptospirosis is zoonotic, meaning that it can be spread from animals to humans. It is caused by a bacteria which is found in the soil and water. Leptospirosis occurs most commonly in warm areas with high annual rainfall, but it can (and does) happen around the world. It is highly contagious and is spread by contact with the urine of an infected animal.

Wildlife, rodents, and farm animals spread Leptospirosis easily through contaminated water sources, such as puddles, mud, standing water (ditches and ponds), streams, and lakes. Dogs (and people) are at risk of infection when contaminated water comes into contact with mucus membranes or skin wounds, like cuts and scrapes. People are at further risk when cleaning up urine from an infected pet.

Protect your pets and your family. If your dogs are frequently around any of these water sources, you may consider having him or her vaccinated against this life threatening disease. This vaccine is not for all dogs at all times - age, health, and risk should all be considered. Please talk to us at your next visit to determine if your pet should be vaccinated for Leptospirosis.
