Because we are based at New Haven Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine, The Purr Project specifically focuses on those cats that have illnesses, injuries, or other conditions but still deserve to be saved. As a 501(c)3 non profit, we depend on the generosity of the public to pay those bills. As a Kitty Klub member, cats that would normally be euthanized will get the chance at the happy life that they deserve.

Central Hospital treats snake bites!
Last week a dog that was bitten by a venomous snake, presumably a copperhead, while hiking at Sleeping Giant Park was carried to safety by first responders and brought directly to our emergency department for care.

Our emergency team administered Antivenin, aka Antivenom. He was hospitalized for treatment including beneficial hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to facilitate the healing process and was discharged a couple days later.

HBOT is very helpful in the treatment of all kinds of wounds and medical conditions. Currently, we are the only veterinary hospital in the state that has BOTH Antivenin and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy available. Learn more about HBOT here- https://buff.ly/3Xu1w1N

Connecticut is home to TWO types of venomous snakes, the more commonly seen Eastern Copperhead and the less common Timber Rattlesnake.

UPDATE: We have the kitten and are in need of a foster ASAP. We at The Purr Project, Inc. Need a foster. Found this (white), kitten in the backyard of a volunteer that someone probably dumped. About 12 weeks old. Can be handled and picked up. Another kitty who we found and rescued near the same area last week was FeLV+ so we need to get it out of there asap! If you have a cat currently, you CAN NOT foster this cat until tested at least 2x.
