Quail babies! We have a batch of blue egg layers ready for you. It's hard to believe that in just six weeks, these babies will be fully grown and laying eggs. Each will lay about 300 eggs a year. So if you want fresh eggs from your backyard, but don't have room for chickens, quail are a great alternative! If you have never tried quail eggs, come out to the farm to get a tour of our aviary, and we'll send you home with eggs to try out. Spoiler alert: They taste exactly like chicken eggs, just smaller!
One of the great advantages of raising our quail in an aviary setting is that sometimes, just sometimes, a hen will go broody. Right now, we have FIVE broody hens! They are taking turns keeping these eggs warm. Waiting is the hardest part...
Sacramento friends, chick season is upon us! Do you have a plan for any "surprise" roosters you might get?
There are many good options for rehoming your rooster. But if you are okay with them being used to feed a family in our community, please consider our Responsible Rooster program.
All rooster surrenders are FREE this year, thanks to some very generous folks in the Rio Linda area. We take in any roosters, any age.

And the quail? All safe, but definitely scared. Found them all huddled in the back of the aviary.
After waiting a long time for the hawk to find his own way out of the aviary, I decided to help.
Hawk found its way into the empty aviary this morning. I know they have incredible eyesight, but this fella can't seem to see the open door. #hangintherebaby
