Important reminder!!!!!!
Making sure your dog is vaccinated against Leptospirosis is just as important, if not more important, as reducing exposure.
We have seen it. Fortunately here, we don't see it nearly as much as some clinics do, because all of our vaccines include lepto, unless the owner has specifically declined it.
A lot of clinics have gone to 3 year distemper/parvo vaccines that don't include the lepto vaccine. But that's also why we haven't done that, so that we can make sure all dogs and pups are fully protected as best as we can get.
Lepto can cause liver failure and is also transmissible to people.
It starts with vague symptoms such as vomiting, lethargic, and can rapidly go downhill from there.
