Important policy announcement! Many of you may have already received this message via Petdesk or email but we also wanted to share on our social media pages for those that may have missed it. Going forward we have opted to no longer schedule “uncomplicated nail trim only” appointments. While we fully expected a lot of disappointment and pushback, this is something many veterinary facilities across the nation have implemented since the field became completely overwhelmed after COVID. Nail trims are by definition a grooming service and though it may be hard to imagine they take away from our ability to focus on medical appointments. It is upsetting to our entire staff when we are struggling to keep up with the demand for sick appointments, injured appointments, vaccine appointments, surgeries, etc and then we see clients expressing their frustration online that “their veterinarian apparently doesn’t have time to trim their pet’s nails today”. While this sentiment may be expressed in a negative light, it is honestly not untrue at times. There are situations where we just cannot pull two staff members away from more intensive appointments to fit in a nail trim appointment. Lately the increasing amount of requests for this service has significantly impeded the flow of our hospital. Therefor we are now recommending that appointments solely for nail trims be pursued at local grooming facilities like those listed below. These businesses offer walk in nail trims in a more appropriate setting and the cost is actually less for our clients. We will still offer nail trims for those patients being seen for other services, for those with broken nails, ingrown nails, etc. We ask that our Boulevard family takes time for understanding and patience regarding this change. Please give us some grace and consider the perspective from which this decision was made before taking to social media. Let us know if you have questions or concerns about this issue. Thank you!

Nobody knows better than us just how much pet owners (and pets!) hate the “cone of shame”! Unfortunately, in many situations it is a necessary evil in order to protect our patients. No one wants that after hours emergency fee when an incision is chewed open and no pet wants to endure a second surgery. BUT we are now offering an alternative option! Check out our new surgical body suits that can be purchased during your pet’s procedure! The cost is almost identical to the cone and obviously they are much more comfortable and stylish! The suit is even made to allow most pets to “do their business” while wearing it! While this suit isn’t appropriate for all surgeries, our patients and clients have been loving it for situations where it can be instituted instead of a cone! If your pet has an upcoming procedure ask us if the suit might be an appropriate option for them!

Shoutout to our kennel assistant Shawna on her graduation over this weekend and her acceptance into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at UAMS! We are so very proud of her! Shawna goes above and beyond to provide extra care for your pets while they stay here with us. Whether they’re in the clinic for the afternoon or two weeks, Shawna gives special attention to making sure the animals have a clean and safe environment, all basic needs fulfilled, administers all of their medications, and monitors closely for any changes to their behavior and condition. She cares for your pets like you would and has a huge heart! We are so lucky to have her and we know her human patients will be in excellent hands! Congratulations Shawna! There was never any doubt you could do it!

We’re still here doing free microchips with Maumelle Friends of the Animals until 3 PM OR until we run out! Dogs must be well socialized, not aggressive, and on leashes. Cats must be in carriers. All animals must be up to date on rabies and you must have proof with you (tag or certificate). If you are a client of ours we won’t have staff available to go in and retrieve your proof of vaccination so please make sure you have it with you! Some tips - Securely fitting collars are much better than harnesses as the harnesses sit right where we need to implant chips! Clothing also inhibits the implantation. Flexi leads/retractable leashes are no one’s friend! Your pet must allow restraint by a technician. Please direct all logistical questions about the chips themselves to MFOA volunteers on location (you will stop at their booth before coming to our implantation booth). Thank you! We’re so happy to be able to provide this service in conjunction with MFOA! Microchips are so important!!

This month features raising awareness for arguably one of THE most important preventative care topics we speak with clients about every single day. Out of fifty states Arkansas takes the spot for number four and that is not a good thing! Our warm humid climate is perfect for mosquitoes. All it takes is a single bite from one carrying the parasite and your unprotected pet could become infected. We have sooo many options for prevention that fit every budget and every lifestyle. Want prevention that also protects against fleas and ticks? We’ve got that! Want prevention that comes with a minimal monthly cost but optimal protection? We’ve got that! Want prevention that lasts 6 or even 12 months and doesn’t require any home administration? We’ve even got that too!! And this month all of our preventative options are 10% off! Don’t wait until it’s too late. Let us make heartworm prevention easy and affordable!
