Today is National Slobber Appreciation Day! That's right, its a real holiday! We all know drool/slobber is one of our canine companions less desirable qualities...though we still love them! This holiday is dedicated to every pet owner who has wiped drool off their wall, or been hit by a drool shower as their dog shook in excitement to see them. Lets all give a shout out to our jowled breeds like Newfoundlands, Mastiffs, Great Danes, and Boxers on this special day!

Candle Toxicity Awareness: Protecting Our Feathered Friends!

Did you know that some candles can pose a hidden danger to our beloved birds? Many candles, especially those scented or made from certain materials, can release harmful chemicals when burned. These toxins, like lead and paraffin, can be dangerous to our feathered friends, affecting their respiratory systems and overall health.

Let's be mindful and considerate! Here are a few tips to protect our avian companions:
1. Opt for Bird-Safe Candles: Look for candles specifically labeled as "bird-safe" or "non-toxic" to ensure they are free from harmful chemicals.
2. Choose Soy or Beeswax Candles: These options are often safer as they don't release toxic fumes like paraffin candles.
3. Well-Ventilated Areas: If you must use conventional candles, make sure the room is well-ventilated, and keep your feathered friend away from the area.
4. Supervise Candle Use: Never leave burning candles unattended, especially if you have a curious bird around.
5. Use Candle Alternatives: Explore LED candles, flameless options, or essential oil diffusers for a safer and bird-friendly ambiance.

Let's spread the word to protect our beautiful birds! Share this post and raise awareness about the potential hazards of candles on our feathered companions. Together, we can create a safer environment for all.

Meet Avocado! Avocado is a Veiled Chameleon recently brought in for an eye issue. She had been recently adopted, and her owner noticed the eye had remained closed since bringing her home. Dr. Hawley was able to flush the eye well, and she already seems more comfortable! 🦎
