Build a coop quick and see if a friend will take her. In the process of building the coop, I realized if I planned a little more and fine tuned things, I could build with minimal material waste and build a stronger and better coop than offered at local farm stores. I then decided to post what I built for my friend on craigslist to see if I could find anyone else interested in another coop while I

was in the hospital from an appendix removal, and that day, one was ordered. And so began the fun of building coops and projects for people all over Michigan. I fell in love with meeting other like-minded people who value a sense of self-sustainability by raising their own chickens/eggs.

Gotland Coops hit another one out of the ball park. Vroooommm! Even Wiley Coyote can't get in these with his cartoon ACME laser rifIe. The only hungry beast that will take these down is an adult bear. If you're in Michigan, buy your hutches and coops from Gotland Chicken Coops .

I delivered another rabbit hutch today to a customer to go along with one she had made last year. This customer has been doing some cool stuff with rabbits, gardening, and all around homesteading and self-reliance. This rabbit hutch has 14 gauge 1/2”x1” floor mesh, which is super robust and will last! Each stall is 2’ wide and 42” deep for easy placement with room to spare of the rabbit nester boxes, which also come with it.

We had a nice install last week for a smaller backyard flock. I love seeing the variety of layouts that are possible to work into each flocks needs and customers space for them. I’m still building to order through the summer for anyone still getting started on a new flock or wanting to upgrade from smaller or older coop systems.

When looking at chicken coop designs and quality, it’s always good to plan for the “worst weather” possibilities and know how it will hold up or perform. No shoveling required to access the eggs, food, or adding shavings in the worst weather is always a win! Even with 18” plus of snow. No door jams to clear or lids to unfreeze or clean to access eggs.

If working with hardware cloth, and you have the options to get this type of shear, it really makes life so much easier. I have had this for a couple years and can’t imagine my life without it! I even cut this one handed so I could video it in the other hand. You can get as add-on to a normal drill I have seen on Amazon, though I use this so much, it was worth getting as a stand alone tool. Another tool to have with this tool is a magnetic bar to pick up all the metal that shoots out of it. It makes clean up on dirt breeze.

I guess some chickens can be “gamers” too! My 12yr old thought this one up and it gave the family a good laugh.
