Yesterday was one of our favorite local events, the 2nd Annual 2025 "Leashes and Beaches" K9 Skills Competition! These K9's work in any condition, so it was a rain or shine event. I was excited to see some favorites from last year's competition and to see some new faces in the mix. I got to spend some time connecting with our friends Ryan and Christina of Coastal Pooper Scooper, and we are looking forward to collaborations with other local pet industry professionals in the future! (ya know, our friends at KLC Pet Sitting- Kind Loving Compassionate, Canine & Company Spa, & The Mobile Pawdicure! 😉)

The future is bright and we are so ready for all the opportunities that 2025 is bringing! ❤️

This is the reality of rescue right now. I often receive messages from friends, family, clients and acquaintances looking for help rehoming a pet. When I say it's a very challenging time to rehome, truer words could not be spoken. I have dreams like many of us who have a heart for animals to be able to make a difference.

Sure, I'd love to win the lottery, open a rescue/sanctuary and devote my life to saving domesticated animals. Chances are unfortunately slim, especially considering I rarely play!

If you know me, I do my best to get in where I fit in. This year, I aim to spend more time volunteering and advocating in the rescue community. An important way to get involved is to learn local legislation and challenge it when possible. While improvements have been made, there's a long way to go.

WOW! 🤩 An incredible job done by our furiends of Empowering Pawz! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This growing community of dedicated individuals is SAVING LIVES every day. It's hard, endless work to coordinate every aspect of rescue but it's so, SO very meaningful. THANK YOU to everyone involved. ❤️

If you've ever considered fostering, reach out to Kara. Stop worrying about the funds, because this rescue organization ACTUALLY covers the cost. Stop worrying about your schedule because there's a dog who would greatly benefit from the time you DO have to give. The goal is successful forever homes but there are baby steps to getting there and for many rescue dogs, simply learning how to live in a home is one of them. You have more to offer than you think. Foster commitments can be as short as a few days or weeks. With that in mind, you can be certain that the Empowering Pawz team wants to set you and your future foster dog up for success and will play a supportive role in your experience as a rescue foster.

Happy New Year, Poppins Pack!

I took a few days off to venture to Raleigh for the new year and I got to visit our old furiend, Stormy! 😍 Stormy moved away a couple of years back. Since then, he's been through a whirlwind of change - including finding out he's much older than his mom was originally told, he has diabetes and requires insulin as well as medication for his enlarged heart (I always knew he was so full of love!). He has been blessed with phenomenal veterinary care and it was so, so special to get to see my boy again. 🥰

This is what it's all about! - forming lasting bonds with my clients, hoomans and pets alike. 💖

It's Christmas Eve, it's raining, we have a full afternoon of Pop-In Visits and what do you know? My car battery needed replacing!

John Oakley conveniently met me at the auto parts store, swapped my battery and even replaced my wipers for me! Dependable, efficient, and skilled. 👌🏻 On behalf of The Poppins Pack, thank you for keeping me moving and Merry Christmas!

Let's welcome Schatzi, Tucker and Mr.Kitty aka GG to The Poppins Pack! This trio and I became fast furiends and due to their pawrets' business schedule... we're happy to know we'll be spending lots more time together! 🤗

"Schatzi" is an endearing term in German which directly translates to "little treasure" or "jewel" and I couldn't think of a more appropriate name for this girl; she's a true gem! 💎 💕 Tucker is a hound mix who I have given the title "Talk of the Town Tucker" because each time I arrive, he's gotta alert the neighbors and make sure eeeeveryone knows! 🗣️🐶 Mr.Kitty has me wrapped around his little paws and knows that I'm going to open the sliding door to the enclosed patio AKA GG's catio. 😹 He's a cool dude who loves the sunlight, fresh air and treats.

I'm excited for the opportunity to build our furiendships and spend time with this crew on a regular basis!

We celebrated a very special someone's birthday yesterday... Kyra turned 12 on 12/12! 🤩 Her dad had to work out of town, so we got TWO birthday walks together - I was partial to the sunset stroll. 🥰 So happy for another year she's circled around the sun and so grateful to keep walking this girl and having fun!

Let's start off with a Kind Keeper No-Kill Animal Rescue success story - Sandy! Sandy's pawrents had a last-minute need and we're so glad they reached out. We shared a couple of Pop-In Visits for breakfast, medication administration and walks while Sandy's pawrents went out of town to honor the life of their late friend. We are privileged to show up for The Poppins Pack through all of life's experiences. Our condolences to all who are grieving this loss. ❤️

Bogey, one of the more advanced puzzle solvers of The Poppins Pack, has definitely met his match with this one! The Dog Twister is a Level 3 puzzle from Nina Ottoson by Outward Hound and it requires the dog to learn sequential steps as well as involves new mechanisms not seen in previous levels. I have a feeling we’ll be working on this one for a while. Leave a comment to cheer Bogey on!

I spent some time with my girl It's Meagan Roo, I Need A Mama Too this week. We know she has a big, bad reputation for her reactivity, but we really like to showcase her true colors.
