If you are not involved in shelter work or rescue, you probably don't know how bad it has gotten. But I'm here to tell you, it has gotten really really bad.

I feel like I have been transported back to 2014 when we were drowning in kittens and people abandoning their pets and people moving and not keeping their pets and people working too much and not keeping their pets and people just coming up with every reason left and right not to be committed to their animals.

Rescues and shelters Nationwide are absolutely drowning. Any progress we have made, it seems to backslided tremendously.

Vets are drowning. They can't keep up with appointments or people or pets or anything in between. Overpopulation is booming.

We are all doing everything we absolutely can, and it's nowhere near enough anymore.

There was a point when I felt like we might be getting ahead, that is no longer the case.

I strongly encourage you to consider adopting a pet. If you have been on the fence wondering if you should or should now, the time is now.

If you are thinking about getting rid of your pet for any reason, please do not. There are only so many homes and so many resources and we just cannot keep up.
I don't know how to make any of it better, but if I get one more phone call about a 13-year-old cat or dog who needs a new home, I literally am going to lose my mind. If I get one more phone call about a litter of kittens from a cat that you've been feeding, I am literally going to lose my mind.

We are not the only ones that can make a difference, every single person in this community and the communities around you - we have got to do better. I feel like I am talking to a brick wall most of the time. But this is heavy on my heart today as I look through the messages of people wanting to get rid of their pets because they're moving or suddenly have 18 cats that they need to relocate because they've been feeding them and didn't fix them or any of the countless things in between that people ask for help for. I don't get it. This isn't the '80s or the '90s, it's 2023. We have to do better.

I can't drive to Eustis to get your cats.
I can't find a home for your cat who hates dogs and cats and kids and doesn't use the litter box.
I can't find a home for your dog who hates animals and jumps the fence.
I can't get a vet to fix your 8 cats and 14 kittens for free tomorrow.
I can't take 9 cats that your elderly father fed and now went to a nursing home.
I can't take your untrained dog you got during covid and now don't have time for.
I can't take your pet because your moving in four days and can't take it.

I can't. We can't. No one can.

It you have animals in front of you - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for them. Spay. Neuter. Adopt. Commit.
