What is "FUR?"

FUR Animal Rescue is a state licensed and 501c3 non profit animal rescue dedicated to finding homes or rescue for animals at the North Platte Animal Shelter through evaluating the dogs and cats, creating and providing the pets with information tags for their shelter kennel, taking pictures and videos for online networking and helping to link up potential adopters with pets in need. Our primary goal is to save the pets in our local shelter. We are NOT the shelter. We are volunteers for the shelter. We give names to the nameless, tags to the unknown and hope for the hopeless. We provide rescue, vet care, foster homes and shelter for certain pets in need at the shelter; such as those who are injured, ill, or those who are not acclimating well in the shelter environment, or those whose time is up. Our entire purpose is to give a second chance to the pets in our local shelter, whom otherwise may not have one. All animals pulled into FUR Rescue are fully vetted by our veterinarians and assessed in a foster home (dogs) or at our FURcility (cats) to get to know their personality and likes/dislikes. Adoptions require (simple) applications and a short process to help provide a forever fit and reassurance of your commitment to the pets that we rescue. What we do is called 'shelter rescue.' Our city hosts a city run facility, basically animal control with housing. It is not a humane society or an adoption agency. The staff is small and unable to focus on adoptions - which is our organizations priority, as VOLUNTEERS. Our primary goal is to save lives at our local shelter. We focus on the lives there, first and foremost. This means we cannot take owner surrenders or stray animals into our rescue, as it is a full time commitment already to saving those in our local shelter. Keeping this city shelter no kill, is a full time responsibility. FUR Animal Rescue also rescues and provides vet care, foster homes and rehoming for animals in need within the community, when/if we are able. We work with very limited foster homes, as we are just two people with full time jobs and simply can not take on more than we can handle. FUR Animal Rescue relies completely on fundraising, Cans For Critters (www.facebook.com/NPCansforCritters) and personal/community donations to help animals. If you would like to make a donation, please visit our donation link at:
paypal.me/FurtheLoveofPAWS
venmo

We also co-run the North Platte Pet Food Pantry (www.facebook.com/NorthPlattePetFoodPantry) and solely run Lost Paws (www.facebook.com/LostPawsNorthPlatte)

Our director also runs Lost Paws, a facebook networking page to help reunite owners with lost and found pets - thus keeping them out of the city shelter. We have a program called Snip it in the Bud to assist with the spay and neuter of feral and stray cats. If you need assistance for this, please message us. We are Incorporated, licensed by the Dept. of Ag/State of NE. (NE 3060513) and a 501c3 Non Profit Rescue. www.FurtheLoveofPAWSRescue.com

Bongo and Buddy

Bongo is tortoise shell and Buddy is a ginger

They've been together for about 2.5 years and are somewhat bonded even though they tend to argue some.

Describe your pets perfect home. What does this pet need in a home to ensure it is their FOREVER HOME?
They do well in a home where they can go outside at night. Here in my new apartment, they're not able to.

Does your pet have any issues or things a new owner should know?
No. Both are healthy.

When was the last time your pet saw a Veterinarian and which one did they go to?
They went to Tender Heart this past November.

We are looking for the perfect home for Harlo, available for adoption at The North Platte Animal Shelter
This adoption application will need to be approved before a meet and greet ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
https://form.jotform.com/232907241243147

Harlo was originally adopted from the shelter by a single gentleman. Harlo had some stranger danger, so the gentleman took him out to start socializing him at all the businesses that allowed dogs. He also started training him in a firm, structured environment.
Unfortunately, this gentleman had a major life change and had to surrender Harlo back to the shelter. Harlo was then adopted, and we'll just say it was absolutely not the right home.

Now Harlo is searching for the perfect fit, and here's what we're looking for:
a quieter home with a dog-savvy owner who understands dog behavior and will be a strong leader.
Harlo is good with dogs and plays rough.
No cats and no kids, please.
He will need to be fed separately from other dogs due to food aggression.
Harlo is very housetrained but wants you to be outside with him. If he's left outside alone, he will bark excessively.
He is crate-trained and loves his crate in the car and at home; it's his safe space.

Harlo is a 3-year-old Lab/Pit Bull mix, current on all vaccinations.
His adoption fee is $32.25, along with an approved adoption application.

Time is of the essence! Harlo deserves a chance. He really is a sweet dog. He could be someone's best friend but we will not let any dog sit in a kennel for weeks and weeks and months trying to find the right owner. That's not fair to any dog. Please share far and wide! We have until January 26th.

Happy Happy Birthday to Team Member Bridget Marquez! Bridget has been a volunteer since July 2023.
Since then she has proved her commitment and dedication to helping animals through many things, including a new baby girl just a couple months ago! She literally volunteered up until just days before and then was anxious to get back almost right away! ❤️
We appreciate Bridget's natural compassion and fun personality, she's just one of us!
Happy 30th Birthday Bridget!

Overstimulation occurs when a cat becomes overwhelmed often during interactions like petting or play. It can lead to sudden changes in behavior, such as biting, swatting, or running away. Overstimulation is common in cats with a lower tolerance for prolonged handling or those who are sensitive to touch. (we see a lot of this in declawed cats, as they are usually in a state of chronic pain, and easily irritated)

Frustration in cats is an emotional state that arises when a cat is unable to achieve a desired goal or when their expectations are unmet. This can often manifest as redirected behaviors to owners or other animals.

By being aware of your cat's body language, behavior, and vocalizations, you can learn what triggers your cat to become overstimulated or frustrated.

Meet Clara Lou, available for Adoption through FUR Animal Rescue.
Rescue Date: December 12, 2025

We rescued Clara from the city shelter on December 12th.
Clara came in as a stray, and although she was very sweet and friendly, it was evident that she needed some major TLC. We pulled her for rescue and took her to the vet. She received a full workup, but it was noted that she had fleas, tapeworms, and was very malnourished. Her mouth was in rough shape, and she had lots of infection. We started her on antibiotics and pain medicine and scheduled a dental procedure. She needed a dental cleaning and extractions as soon as possible, but she needed to get those antibiotics on board first. She was also diagnosed with a heart murmur and started on meds, and scheduled for a recheck on that.
We took Clara back to the FURcility, started her on her meds, and began getting to know her. Boy, were we in for a big surprise!

Clara turned out to be nothing short of absolutely amazing. From day one, she was the most friendly, grateful, and silly little girl. While we could tell that her mouth hurt her, it didn't stop her from constantly seeking affection and wanting to be with us all the time. She received her dental procedure on December 23rd and had seven extractions and seven retaining roots removed. These were 14 different spots in her mouth that were in pain, filled with infection, and in bad shape. I can barely imagine what it must feel like to have 14 painful spots like that. She is so resilient and has fully healed now.

I struggle to find the best words to explain the incredible cat that Clara is. I have a smile on my face as I think about trying to explain Clara to someone. She's literally the perfect cat. She greets you when you come in the door. She wants to be your best friend and lie on your lap. She loves to be held, petted, and will do whatever you're doing. She's fantastic with other cats, dogs, and especially children. She absolutely loves kids and will run past 100 adults to get to that one child. Kids are her favorite thing in the world, and she loves being with them and near them.

The vet estimated Clara to be around 10 years old. I believe she indeed might be be an older kitty, but I just can't imagine this outgoing, happy, upbeat, vibrant, playful, and silly girl being 10 years old. She acts like a much younger cat and has the soul of a toddler. She's genuinely happy inside and out. Clara is truly the perfect cat.

WHAT SHE NEEDS IN A HOME:
Clara's forever home can be quite versatile. She would thrive in an active home with kids. If you have a household with lots of hustle and bustle, that won't bother her one bit. She'll want to be with you, loving laps and sleeping in your bed. Clara absolutely loves playing with other cats and would likely do best with another outgoing feline friend. She doesn't ask for much and will likely act like she's lived in your home her entire life, just days after being adopted. Clara is a bright light who will bring lots of smiles and laughter to your life. She's truly the picture of pure joy, and we can't wait to see what amazing family ends up with this incredible feline.

One last thing to mention is that Clara was diagnosed with a heart murmur when we rescued her. She takes a tiny pill twice a day, which we easily mix into her canned food. She has a recheck scheduled in about two weeks, which is already paid for. If she remains on heart medication, it's a non-issue - she takes it easily. The medication helps keep fluid off her heart, making it easier for it to function. Clara has been an absolute dream to care for and it shouldn't make you shy away from loving her.

Alright, in a nutshell - fun, happy, loving, silly, sweet, affectionate, playful, social, loves everyone and everything - PURRFECTION! Who wants to snag her up? 💓❓We are happy to answer any questions you may have, so ask away!

When you know, you know! Our sweet Flurry has been officially adopted!

Rob and Lori Carlton of Oshkosh had been casually looking for a new cat after recently losing theirs and their dog. Rob was hopeful for a black cat (awesome!), but Lori fell in love with Flurry's story and knew she was the one for them!

Flurry doesn't interview well because she takes time to warm up, but Lori was fine with that. She had watched the videos, seen the photos, and knew our rescue's work. She trusted our judgment and couldn't wait to add Flurry to her family. 🥹

Flurry left yesterday for her new beginning with her amazing family. Thank you, Rob and Lori, for taking a chance on our sweet Flurry girl. We're forever grateful! You won't regret it - she's one of a kind and will be your best friend. We love you, Flurry! Here's your happily ever after - you deserve it! 💓
