FUR Animal Rescue is a state licensed and 501c3 non profit animal rescue dedicated to finding homes or rescue for animals at the North Platte Animal Shelter through evaluating the dogs and cats, creating and providing the pets with information tags for their shelter kennel, taking pictures and videos for online networking and helping to link up potential adopters with pets in need. Our primary goal is to save the pets in our local shelter. We are NOT the shelter. We are volunteers for the shelter. We give names to the nameless, tags to the unknown and hope for the hopeless. We provide rescue, vet care, foster homes and shelter for certain pets in need at the shelter; such as those who are injured, ill, or those who are not acclimating well in the shelter environment, or those whose time is up. Our entire purpose is to give a second chance to the pets in our local shelter, whom otherwise may not have one. All animals pulled into FUR Rescue are fully vetted by our veterinarians and assessed in a foster home (dogs) or at our FURcility (cats) to get to know their personality and likes/dislikes. Adoptions require (simple) applications and a short process to help provide a forever fit and reassurance of your commitment to the pets that we rescue. What we do is called 'shelter rescue.' Our city hosts a city run facility, basically animal control with housing. It is not a humane society or an adoption agency. The staff is small and unable to focus on adoptions - which is our organizations priority, as VOLUNTEERS. Our primary goal is to save lives at our local shelter. We focus on the lives there, first and foremost. This means we cannot take owner surrenders or stray animals into our rescue, as it is a full time commitment already to saving those in our local shelter. Keeping this city shelter no kill, is a full time responsibility. FUR Animal Rescue also rescues and provides vet care, foster homes and rehoming for animals in need within the community, when/if we are able. We work with very limited foster homes, as we are just two people with full time jobs and simply can not take on more than we can handle. FUR Animal Rescue relies completely on fundraising, Cans For Critters (www.facebook.com/NPCansforCritters) and personal/community donations to help animals. If you would like to make a donation, please visit our donation link at:
paypal.me/FurtheLoveofPAWS
venmo

We also co-run the North Platte Pet Food Pantry (www.facebook.com/NorthPlattePetFoodPantry) and solely run Lost Paws (www.facebook.com/LostPawsNorthPlatte)

Our director also runs Lost Paws, a facebook networking page to help reunite owners with lost and found pets - thus keeping them out of the city shelter. We have a program called Snip it in the Bud to assist with the spay and neuter of feral and stray cats. If you need assistance for this, please message us. We are Incorporated, licensed by the Dept. of Ag/State of NE. (NE 3060513) and a 501c3 Non Profit Rescue. www.FurtheLoveofPAWSRescue.com

Meet Lloyd, available for Adoption through FUR Animal Rescue!
Rescue Date: February 17, 2025

Lloyd was found as a stray in Key Estates and taken to the animal shelter. We could tell that Lloyd was an absolute sweetheart, and we hoped he would get adopted quickly. However, his initially shy nature made him a less likely candidate for a quick adoption.

We knew that if we got Lloyd vetted and fixed up, and shed new light on him, he would find the home of his dreams. We have had Lloyd for about a month, and in the beginning, he was a typical abandoned cat - just absolutely exhausted and in poor health due to lack of proper care.

We updated his vettiing, got rid of the fleas, intestinal parasites, ear mites, and double ear infection, and let him rest. He slept for quite a while, then slowly started to investigate who we were and what we wanted. What we wanted was for Lloyd to be himself and show us what HE wanted in a dream family.

As the days went on, Lloyd gained confidence and slowly interacted with us, taking time to observe us from a distance. You could tell he was a sweet, sensitive soul begging to feel like he belonged. Finally, he felt secure enough to play with us, seek out attention, and ultimately become our shadow!

Lloyd is the most darling and wonderful cat you could ever ask for. He is the John Krasinski of cats - just a gosh-darn awesome cat. Can't say enough good things about him, really.... Just another abandoned cat deserving of love, care and a family.

FAMILY GOALS
Lloyd is seeking a laid-back family where he can thrive. He's suitable for families with older kids who are gentle and respectful, as loud or chaotic environments may not be ideal.

In terms of pet companions, Lloyd gets along well with other cats that treat him kindly and don't bully him. He's also compatible with mellow, cat-friendly dogs.

Lloyd adores people, but he takes a little time to trust new individuals. He may not immediately warm up to strangers, but once you've earned his trust, he'll shower you with affection. Once he's settled, expect him to greet you at the door, snuggle on your lap, and follow you around the house. :)

At his core, Lloyd is a playful, laid-back cat who enjoys the simple things in life. If you're looking for a gentle companion to join your family, Lloyd might be the perfect fit. Now let's find John Catzinski 😅 his FURever home, today!

We are happy to answer any questions you may have, so ask away!

Meet The Grey Gatsby, available for Adoption through FUR Animal Rescue!
Rescue Date: January 17, 2025

We rescued Gatsby from the city shelter. He was brought in as a stray after being found sitting on the side of the highway in the middle of winter. 😭 A Good Samaritan took him to the shelter, where we scooped him up and promised to get him all better.

Gatsby had a long road to recovery ahead of him. He was very malnourished, dehydrated and infested with intestinal parasites, fleas, and ear mites. He had frostbite on his paw pads and ears and had gone without proper care, quality food, or hydration for a very long, long time.

Gatsby took time to acclimate. Cats like him usually crash hard that first week. Once they see there's food, water, and a safe spot to lay, they crash HARD. Gatsby slept almost straight for a week, with brief intervals to eat and take meds.

Gatsby was absolutely filthy, and his poor condition led to diarrhea, which caused him to become an overall mess. Despite constant cleaning, he and his suite smelled for two weeks straight. Getting him physically and mentally well, took time. Lots of hand baths, extra cleaning and TLC to do for him, what he was too sick and exhausted to do himself.

However, slowly, Gatsby started to feel better and regain energy. He began seeking affection and bonding with us. Finally, one day, he started playing with toys! He transformed before our very eyes, and we love every bit of it. The meds worked, the rest worked and best of all - the love worked 🥰🙏

Gatsby has blossomed into a gentleman full of gratitude and love. He asks for so very little.. His toes are still healing, but other than that - he's so ready to find a loving home to settle into and become a part of. We can't wait to see who gets this awesome boy!

FAMILY GOALS:
While it's often said that cats thrive with feline companionship, Gatsby proves that's not always the case. This charming cat prefers being the only feline in the household, not because he dislikes other cats, but because he values his personal space.

Gatsby has a special affinity for dogs, particularly those that are cat-friendly. His past experiences with canines must have left him eager for their company, because he becomes super excited whenever dogs visit. It's super cute!

If you're a family seeking a single, loving cat to join your household, Gatsby might be the ideal companion. He'll bring joy and affection to your life, and his unique personality will make him a cherished member of your family. Silly, loving, low maintenance and absolutely wonderful - inside and out. ❤️

We are happy to answer any questions you may have, so ask away!

With spring approaching, kitten season is right around the corner. It’s important to understand how our actions can impact the kittens we may encounter.

When people find a litter of kittens, their first instinct is often to scoop them up and rescue them. While this comes from a place of good intentions, removing kittens too soon can have serious consequences for their development if they are separated from their mother, as well as potentially fatal results for the mother as well.
Additionally, a lot of shelters simply cannot care for neonatal or young kittens and entering a shelter can expose kittens to deadly disease, risking their fragile lives.

If you find a litter of kittens—or even a single kitten—follow these steps:

1) Look for the mother cat. Mother cats often leave their kittens temporarily to hunt and feed themselves. Just because the kittens appear alone doesn’t mean their mother has abandoned them!! Don't immediately jump to "save" a kitten who may not need saved!!

2) Monitor the area for the mother’s return. She should come back to nurse her young every few hours. If you don’t see her within 3-6 hours, the kittens may need intervention.

3) If the mother returns, let her care for them. The best outcome for the kittens is to remain with their mother until they are weaned and can fend for themselves. During this time, get a game plan for when they kittens become mobile. Don't ignore it. Contact rescues and shelter for ideas. If you plan to rescue the litter, you MUST rescue the mother as well.

4)If you are absolutely sure that the mother is no longer caring for the kittens, then you will need to research neonatal and infant kitten care online. You can do so much to help! While it may seem overwhelming, after only a couple of weeks, the kittens will be old enough to start solid foods, and won't require quite as much care.

During this time, you can start talking to family and friends about adopting the kittens and ensure they have spay/neuter requirements in place. Reach out to your local pet organizations for vouchers and ask them to courtesy post the kittens for you.

If you absolutely cannot do this, make sure you have a plan in place before rescuing the kittens. Don't just show up at a shelter or rescue with a box of kittens! Make plans prior to protect all involved.

Remember, shelters and rescues do everything they can every single day. They want to help. But there's only so much we can all do. A little bit of help from you can make all the difference. ❤️

Update on Remy's Journey Home!

Remy, the dog we featured last week, is all set for her big trip back home tomorrow! This sweet girl has been on an incredible journey. Originally from Alabama, Remy was painstakingly rehomed about two years ago after spending six loving years with her family.

In a astonishing turn of events, Remy ended up in a small town in Nebraska, over 1,000 miles from her original home. Thanks to a microchip, the animal shelter was able to track down her original owners, who were devastated to hear about Remy's abandonment.

FUR Animal Rescue has been working tirelessly to reunite Remy with her family. Today, she received a thorough vet check, updated vaccinations, and treatment for hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. Remy had fleas and a skin infection as well. She also got a much-needed bath, nail trim, and a shiny new collar.

Tomorrow, Remy will embark on her 18-hour journey back to Alabama. Pat will drive her halfway, meeting her family in Missouri, who will then take her home.

We'll keep you updated on Remy's journey home. Stay tuned for more updates on this incredible reunion story! ❤️
