FUR Animal Rescue is a state licensed and 501c3 non profit animal rescue dedicated to finding homes or rescue for animals at the North Platte Animal Shelter through evaluating the dogs and cats, creating and providing the pets with information tags for their shelter kennel, taking pictures and videos for online networking and helping to link up potential adopters with pets in need. Our primary goal is to save the pets in our local shelter. We are NOT the shelter. We are volunteers for the shelter. We give names to the nameless, tags to the unknown and hope for the hopeless. We provide rescue, vet care, foster homes and shelter for certain pets in need at the shelter; such as those who are injured, ill, or those who are not acclimating well in the shelter environment, or those whose time is up. Our entire purpose is to give a second chance to the pets in our local shelter, whom otherwise may not have one. All animals pulled into FUR Rescue are fully vetted by our veterinarians and assessed in a foster home (dogs) or at our FURcility (cats) to get to know their personality and likes/dislikes. Adoptions require (simple) applications and a short process to help provide a forever fit and reassurance of your commitment to the pets that we rescue. What we do is called 'shelter rescue.' Our city hosts a city run facility, basically animal control with housing. It is not a humane society or an adoption agency. The staff is small and unable to focus on adoptions - which is our organizations priority, as VOLUNTEERS. Our primary goal is to save lives at our local shelter. We focus on the lives there, first and foremost. This means we cannot take owner surrenders or stray animals into our rescue, as it is a full time commitment already to saving those in our local shelter. Keeping this city shelter no kill, is a full time responsibility. FUR Animal Rescue also rescues and provides vet care, foster homes and rehoming for animals in need within the community, when/if we are able. We work with very limited foster homes, as we are just two people with full time jobs and simply can not take on more than we can handle. Our director also runs Lost Paws, a facebook networking page to help reunite owners with lost and found pets - thus keeping them out of the city shelter. We're thrilled to introduce our latest furry friend, Kailey, to the FUR Animal Rescue family! This stunning black beauty was a stray at the North Platte Animal Shelter, arriving on October 8th with her precious kittens in tow. While her little ones found their forever homes in just a day, Kailey was left behind, waiting for someone to see her worth.

That's when we stepped in to rescue this deserving mama and welcome her to the Ex Mom's Club! Kailey has had a busy day, getting spayed and fully vetted. She's now resting comfortably at FUR, and we're eager to get to know her and find her purrfect match.

Kailey's medical bill was over $400, and any donations to help with her care would be greatly appreciated ❤️. Your support means the world to us and to Kailey!

‼️I NEED A HOME BY MONDAY NOVEMBER 24!

Friends, we desperately need your help!

On October 22, we rescued a cat in dire need.
We had her spayed and vetted and took her to FUR. She spent the night in the litter box (not uncommon with newbies!) and the next morning we could tell she just wasn't quite right.

We took her back to the vet and had her tested for panleukopenia... Which she tested faintly positive for.
Panleuk is kind of a big deal in rescue, because it can be contagious to unvaccinated cats... Well, since we usually have no history of vaccines in our rescues and although they do get vaccinated upon intake - that doesn't mean they are fully protected yet. So, Roxie couldn't come back to FUR. If you ever feel the need to wonder why shelters have cages - panleuk is one of several reasons, it helps to stop the transmission when stray cats are abundant.

We choose to run a rescue facility and risk it, but it's not without stress. Because now we have a cat who can't be at FUR, but STILL NEEDS A HOME.

She has beat panleukopenia and is now immune. She is doing well and so so so so sweet. She was such a sick little girl but has bounced back and it blooming! Most adult cats can overcome panleuk, it's kittens who generally have a much tougher time. Roxie is feeling super good and ready to move on!

So here's where we need your help - - - -

Roxie needs a home asap. She can't stay and the vet. She deserves so much more.
She needs a home with no other cats or cats that are current on vaccines, as she could potentially still shed the virus for a short time longer. This will keep everyone healthy and safe.
It's that simple.
