FUR Animal Rescue is a state licensed and 501c3 non profit animal rescue dedicated to finding homes or rescue for animals at the North Platte Animal Shelter through evaluating the dogs and cats, creating and providing the pets with information tags for their shelter kennel, taking pictures and videos for online networking and helping to link up potential adopters with pets in need. Our primary goal is to save the pets in our local shelter. We are NOT the shelter. We are volunteers for the shelter. We give names to the nameless, tags to the unknown and hope for the hopeless. We provide rescue, vet care, foster homes and shelter for certain pets in need at the shelter; such as those who are injured, ill, or those who are not acclimating well in the shelter environment, or those whose time is up. Our entire purpose is to give a second chance to the pets in our local shelter, whom otherwise may not have one. All animals pulled into FUR Rescue are fully vetted by our veterinarians and assessed in a foster home (dogs) or at our FURcility (cats) to get to know their personality and likes/dislikes. Adoptions require (simple) applications and a short process to help provide a forever fit and reassurance of your commitment to the pets that we rescue. What we do is called 'shelter rescue.' Our city hosts a city run facility, basically animal control with housing. It is not a humane society or an adoption agency. The staff is small and unable to focus on adoptions - which is our organizations priority, as VOLUNTEERS. Our primary goal is to save lives at our local shelter. We focus on the lives there, first and foremost. This means we cannot take owner surrenders or stray animals into our rescue, as it is a full time commitment already to saving those in our local shelter. Keeping this city shelter no kill, is a full time responsibility. FUR Animal Rescue also rescues and provides vet care, foster homes and rehoming for animals in need within the community, when/if we are able. We work with very limited foster homes, as we are just two people with full time jobs and simply can not take on more than we can handle. FUR Animal Rescue relies completely on fundraising, Cans For Critters (www.facebook.com/NPCansforCritters) and personal/community donations to help animals. If you would like to make a donation, please visit our donation link at:

venmo

We also co-run the North Platte Pet Food Pantry (www.facebook.com/NorthPlattePetFoodPantry) and solely run Lost Paws (www.facebook.com/LostPawsNorthPlatte)

Our director also runs Lost Paws, a facebook networking page to help reunite owners with lost and found pets - thus keeping them out of the city shelter. We have a program called Snip it in the Bud to assist with the spay and neuter of feral and stray cats. If you need assistance for this, please message us. We are Incorporated, licensed by the Dept. of Ag/State of NE. (NE 3060513) and a 501c3 Non Profit Rescue. www.FurtheLoveofPAWSRescue.com

We are thrilled to announce that our beautiful Bessie has been officially adopted! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Bessie came to us in October, a shell of a cat. She needed vet attention, and someone to care. We began pouring all of FUR love into her, and she blossomed! She became the happiest, sweetest, most grateful cat there ever was. She was also one of the easiest cats we've ever had the pleasure to help.
Bessie asked for so little and in return, gave us so much.
We are going to miss her little cow butt :) and loving heart but we are excited for her new journey.

Bessie now joins the home of Cindy Brunken. Cindy recently lost her cat Jet, who shared a striking resemblance to Bessie. When she saw and read about Bessie, she knew she was the purrfect fit! Today Cindy and our good friend Chris Cooley made the trip from Broken Bow to sweep Bessie off her paws and take her home! We know Bess is going to bring Cindy so much love and joy. She is just a delightful little cat, we will miss her.

Here's to your purrfect ending Bessie, we love you!
Welcome to the FUR Family, Cindy! ❀️

Every now and then an EXTRA EXTRA special cat comes along and sparks a d extra special love inside of all of us. Today, we introduce you to that super special cat... His name, is Tig. :)

Tig showed up at a house in town and began eating the provided food. Every night, he'd show up for food and nestle into a small cat bed. He'd run from the human but loved other cats. His caretaker wanted more for him so reached out to me and ultimately Tig ended up at the city shelter. He was posted on LOST PAWS for several weeks and then for the three days at the shelter. While there, he wouldn't allow staff to check his gender or interact with him. No one claimed him, so we pulled him for Rescue and hoped to figure out just who Tig was and what he wanted in a dream life. We knew it was much more than a bit of food and shivering cold every night, and the angel who helped him find safety knew that, too.

Tig arrived at the FURcility on November 12. He was already neutered, which meant at one point, his family had cared. We don't know where they went or why, if only he'd been microchipped :(
He didn't have an ear tip, which means he at one point - was a friendly cat. The first few days, he was less than friendly. He was scared, frustrated and outwardly angry.
We allowed Tig to just decompress. He had a suite with everything he needed to show him he was safe, loved and could be whoever he wanted to be. He could just be Tig.

Slowly, Tig began to come around! He loved being petted with the scratcher and would allow it for a long time. We began to sneak in hand pets and he loved that too, except if he caught you. Then his trauma returned and he would scoot off.
Tig was allowed to free roam and meet the other FURcility cats, which he loved. It helped him relax and really begin to enjoy just being a normal cat.
He began to play! Which we love! Letting his guard down and enjoying life... It's such an amazing sight to see. Happiness. Joy. Trust. Contentment.

Tig today is a special guy. He isn't incredibly impressed with humans, but each day does better and better at allowing them in. Tig really has no desire at this time for human affection. His day consists of eating a yummy meal, hanging with cat friends, exploring around, playing a little and taking long naps. He asks for so little of us. He's just happy to finally be able to just BE TIG. And so that's what we're going with - a home that will adopt Tig, and just let Tig BE TIG. It's so so easy. You provide the home and food and love and Tig, will just be. ❀️

Tig is excellent with other cats and will get along with just about anyone, but another sweet laid back submissive cat is ideal. He hasn't a mean bone in his body and won't likely stand up to a bully cat to balance it. Tig would do best with another cat, since he will be slow to let humans in.

Tig can be dog tested.

Tig will do best in an adult only home as most kids want cats to play with and snuggle with. Kid visitors or older kiddos are just fine. Tig currently has 20+ people who care for him over a weeks time. He has yet to bond to any of us, but he does interact. I expect him to bond deeply to his family and with time and trust - become that affectionate cat I just know is in there. But it shouldn't be pushed or rushed, he should just be adored and cared for and allowed to JUST BE TIG. ❀️
If you're looking for a cat to love with no expectations, Tig may be just the one for you. ❀️

Meet Kailey, available for Adoption through FUR Animal Rescue!
RESCUE DATE: November 20, 2025

Kailey came to FUR Animal Rescue after we rescued her from the city shelter. There, she was brought in as a stray with her kittens on Oct 8th. She raised them there in the shelter until they were able to be adopted out. They were all adopted within a day, and as usual - mom was left behind. No kittens, nonhome, no hope.
Can't stand it! We immediately pulled her for Rescue, had her spayed and she is now a proud member of our Ex Mom's Club, never to have to be anything but a spoiled girl ever again!

Kailey has been a real treat but she's definitely ready for her own home and family.
She's a very loving, affectionate and social cat. She adjusts quickly and has a confident nature about her, that just lights up the room! Kailey just brings a smile to your face and you can't help but just love her.
She is very playful and will retrieve interesting items and bring them to you. Once, she brought a single glove, followed by another. She wants you to be proud of her and know that she's doing it out of love. It's all very sweet and endearing. She's a good girl.

Kailey would do amazing in a home with kids, if you have them. She's very spunky and not persnickety with people at all. She just likes to have fun, get lots of love and most importantly - be part of whatever anyone is doing! She just loves people and enjoys being a part of our FUR family.

All in all, Kailey is just looking for that special family to see her worth, just as we have. She's an amazing little girl and we've loved getting to know her.

🐈 Kailey is quite picky about cats. She has adjusted to our other residents but would likely do best as an only cat. They Co exist OK but there are occasional tense moments, caused by her. She'd do best with a kitten, if anything, where she can be dominant and the boss of the fam. :)

πŸ• We can dog test Kailey, just haven't had the chance.
