Trap Neuter Return - TNR - North Platte, Nebraska We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, focused on caring for feral/community cats in Nebraska ❤️

**We are a tiny group of people, working to trap feral felines in the North Platte community and then have them spayed, neutered, vaccinated, treated with parasite prevenative, then returning them back to their original colony home. When doing TNR… Our goal is also not to return any kittens or friendly cats we encounter and we try our best to get them all rehomed. We also care for about 75 cats a

day… In 14 locations around our town. We provide them with food, water, shelter and continued medical care as needed. We do our best to fundraise through out the year and raise money for the cats. All the money we raise goes 100% back to our veterinarian bill! Amazon Wishlist:

Adopting a former feral cat or kitten that’s been tamed down.

30 days.

That’s exactly how long it took for Regina to be comfortable in her new home. To quote her new mom “Like after the first two weeks I was hoping she wouldn't be scared forever and then it was like seriously on day 30, she let me pet her and hold her and she just purred, and she has never went back since, she's always around, runs through the house so playful and even comes to her name. Living her best life finally for sure 😁”

Her mom adopted her knowing that she was a little shy. But we never know how long they will show their shy side to the new home. So it’s hard to portray that to adopters. We typically do not offer them for adoption until they have broken through the shyness with their foster and they’ve been worked with for many many many weeks. So usually when we put them up for adoption, they’re completely comfortable with their foster. And that’s the hard part because then they get ripped away from everything they’ve known and became comfortable with and they have to start over again with a new home. But this time it will be there forever home. But they def sometimes regress for an extended time.

90% of the time, the cats we get are like Regina; they come to us having never been touched, so the rehab process can be long. Sometimes it’s short, but often, when adopters want one of our kittens, it’s hard to explain that they really are shy. They tend to think of ‘shy’ as ‘no big deal’—that the cat will be fine in a few days—but it’s not always that simple.

Even after they’ve been tamed down, it’s important for adopters to understand that these cats might still need time to adjust to their new homes. Just because they’ve made progress doesn’t mean they’ll immediately feel comfortable in a new environment. It’s not unusual for them to be cautious or shy at first, and they may take a few weeks—or even months—to fully settle in. Patience is key. Creating a calm, consistent routine, and giving them space to explore at their own pace, will help them feel safe and start building trust. With time, they can thrive in their new homes, but it’s important to remember that this process can take time, and that’s perfectly okay.

Regina’s mom did such a wonderful job welcoming her into the new home at Regina’s pace

Meet Windy, Blizzard, Stormy, Rainey, and Thunder!

These beautiful cats are looking for a loving forever home where they can thrive with patience and understanding. Windy, Blizzard and Stormy were born on or around May 27th, while Rainey and Thunder share a birthdate of June 5th.

🛑Having come from an environment with limited socialization early on, they may take a little extra time to warm up. They’ve been in their foster home for quite some time, which has made them deeply attached to their safe space. However, with the right amount of love and care, they are sure to blossom into wonderful, loyal companions.

They will be a bit shy at first, as they are still learning to trust new people and environments. But don’t let that fool you—they have so much potential to open their hearts. These sweet souls will benefit from a calm, patient home with another kind and loving cat, where they can feel secure and start to truly shine.

If you’re looking for a cat that will appreciate the gentle touch of a dedicated adopter and the chance to blossom in a new environment, Windy Blizzard, Stormy, Rainey, and Thunder just might be your perfect match. They will need time to adjust, but the bond they will form with the right family will be worth every moment.

If you’re someone that is experienced in doing TNR… When is it too cold to trap? Just would love to have a discussion on everyone’s thoughts.

So true!!!

So true!!!

Saturday musings of a dog:

You know, being home alone while you’re at work doesn’t feel so bad when I have a cozy couch, a favorite toy, and the comforting scent of you all around. I might nap, chew on my favorite bone, or even dream of chasing squirrels!
But being alone in a shelter? That’s a different story. It’s loud, unfamiliar, and a little scary.

𝗜’𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆.
❤️

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed and think you might have to give me up, remember this: I’d rather wait for you in the comfort of our home than face the uncertainty of shelter life. Your love and time mean the world to me, and I promise to fill your days with joy, wagging tails, and unconditional love!

Let’s keep the family together! If you’re busy, consider ways to make it work. I’m worth the extra effort!

Trail Cam Pics - Linda said she saw 11 of her cats on camera. She’s missing about four of them. She’s hoping
a few more days of setting the camera up will reveal if they are there or not she usually leaves it up for 24 hours at a time.

Feel-Good Story Friday!

Meet Chunk, a sweet cat who’s lived in a mobile home park for the past two years. One day, he showed up at a lady’s door. With her big heart, she started feeding him and the other neighborhood cats every day. While many cats came by for food, Chunk was different. He was extra affectionate and made it clear he wanted to be inside.

When cats like Chunk need help, it’s often hard for people to know where to turn. One summer evening, I was drawn to her house and knocked on her door. She told me she’d love to find Chunk a home, and she mentioned that he’d been losing a lot of hair. A quick check revealed a severe flea infestation. After giving him a dose of Revolution, his skin improved, and his fur started to grow back within weeks.

We don’t have a physical space for adoptions, so taking in cats isn’t always feasible. But with kitten season winding down, I decided it was time to start looking for homes for a few of the cats. Around that time, a friend from social media, who lives here in North Platte, reached out. She was looking for an older male cat to help her grieving female cat, who had lost her last companion. The female had started over grooming herself and was losing her spark for life.

I began updating her on different cats, though most were females. She was set on finding a male, and I kept searching. Then one day, it hit me—what about Chunk? The lady who fed him had always thought he was a female. I hoped and prayed he was actually a male.

We took Chunk to the vet last week for a checkup and to see if he was neutered. Sure enough, Chunk is a four-year-old male, already fixed. His previous owner had cared enough to get him neutered—but was he lost or left behind when someone moved? We’ll never know.

Chunk had no health issues, aside from some scabbing from the flea bites. We treated him with a powerful topical flea treatment, vaccinated him, and he got a clean bill of health.

I reached out to my friend and asked if she’d be interested in giving him a home. She was delighted….but also she was unsure how her sometimes sassy female cat would react. But with a slow, patient introduction, Chunk has merged into great so far!!

I got an update from her recently, and it made my heart so full. Chunk now has a loving home that will never give up on him!

Best update ever ever ever!!!!
