Omg....My neighbors have been complaining that my dog is barking non-stop. I hate the electric zapping bark collars so I purchased a humane citronella collar. When a dog barks, it shoots a blast of citronella under their nose and apparently they don't like it.
This afternoon I was getting the collar ready and filled it with the citronella liquid. And that's where my afternoon should have ended. But no, it's me, and I begin to become curious as to “how” the collars actually work.
So I'm standing at my front door "barking" at my dog's collar. Nothing happens. I make sure it's turned on, check the fill level, and go through the "getting started" check list one more time. Again, I bark. Nothing happens. Now I'm not quite sure, why I had this next thought, but I did...I put the collar on. I seriously extended the band and fit the growl box against my throat and barked. Apparently, the collar only works if it feels vibrations, because I immediately received a blast of citronella to the face.
I began coughing, which only caused the f’ing collar to continue squirting bug spray over and over into my nasal cavity. I'm now on my hands and knees in my front yard, trying to breathe, and to make matters worse, the damn dog is barking. So between coughing and yelling at him to shut up, I've emptied over a dozen blasts of citronella to my face. During all of this ruckus, I'm trying to undo the clasp of the collar, which has somehow managed to weld shut during this whole fiasco.
I finally get the collar off and threw, yes I threw that inhumane thing across the yard, and lay in the grass sucking in the cool afternoon air. In the middle of thinking this is probably the dumbest thing I've done in a while, I hear laughter. MY NEIGHBOR SAW THE WHOLE THING! 😱
He was laughing so damn hard he couldn't breathe. Between gasps, he tells me, "I was gonna come help, but every time I started to head over, you'd set it off again and then I would start laughing and couldn't make it." So now, not only are my eyes red, but my face and ears are too. After checking to make sure I was ok, we parted ways and I went in to shower so I wouldn't smell like ode de' Tiki Torch.
Lesson learned: next time (yes, there will always be a next time with me) make sure that:
1. Don't fill the collar before trying to set it off.
2. Remember your neighbor is not a good source of help in a comedy crisis situation.
On the plus side, I won't have a mosquito problem for a few days!
Even though this does sound like some thing I'd surely do, I hate to break the news that it's a copied story that gave me a good laugh so feel free to do the same. 😂

The only real damage I had was this huge scrub pine that fell on my fence. So...an hour later it is now sitting in a nice pile on the curb and my fencing is no worse for the wear...a little bent in one spot but me and my trusty chain saw made quick work of getting I cut up and gone. One thing I can say about living on my own down here is that I have definitely had to learn how to do alot of things on my own and to trust that I can and will be ok doing them.

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know I am good, power is on, just got cell service back on. Have a tree down on a small fence section so I have to go out and play with the chain saw to cut it off, have a few outlets on the outside of the house that are not working, found that out when I tried to plug the drill in to take the shutters down so will have to get an electrician out to look at those. Otherwise north port looks to be ok at least on my side of town.

Just wanted to take a minute and let friends and family know that I am staying put here in North Port, with all the dogs I feel it's the best and safest option at this point. We sit up high enough and are far enough inland that I believe we should be ok and not have to worry about flooding or storm surges...the shutters are all up and everything is prepared the best I can get it. Generator is on standby for when we loose power and once the storm hits my only concern will be the safety and well being of the dogs....I will sweat and be uncomfortable but I will make sure they have fans on them and water at all times. Hopefully our linemen and first responders will be able to work quickly to restore power and as soon as I am able to update on how we are I will.

Please say prayers for all of us that are going to be effected by this horrible monster of a storm....I have a feeling this is gonna be one we will all talk about for many years to come. I also ask that you please day a prayer for all of our essential workers who are literally putting themselves out there in the middle of all of this to make sure we all are safe.

For those who are effected by this storm...once it is past us and we all wake up the next day, make sure that you and your family are taken care of but look out for your neighbors and the community around you...have compassion for those may have damage or flooding or who may have lost everything...don't be selfish or greedy...if you can lend a hand, a shoulder to cry on, a bottle of water, a can of gas or even just a hot cup of coffee please do. We will all get through this....we are after all Florida Strong🥰
