I love that this veterinarian did this. It's so important to see this video, especially here in Florida.

Excuses such as he "I'll only be a minute," "the windows are open," "It's nice out today..." are dissected and disproven beautifully with nothing more than a timer, thermometer and a dedicated veterinarian.

Making himself uncomfortable for a half an hour in the hopes of saving just one pet from unnecessary heatstroke. Thank you Dr. Ernie!!

These things are so important for every dog owner to know. New owners take notes.. Experienced owners take a refresher. We can easily forget these things and place undue stress on our pups. Not to mention the behavior issues that can develop from a lack of communication.

Hey everyone, I'm sorry this post is a little late but it was just really hard to write. My pack is a little bit smaller now, as I had to say goodbye to my penny. My baby was 8 years old and had some neurological issues that she had when I adopted her at 2 years old, and just got to the point where it was time to say goodbye. I would like to thank Georgia Doberman Rescue for giving me so many years of love and joy. We miss her so much but we're putting one paw in front of the other. Rest in Peace my Penny. 10/11/2014 - 2/1/2021

Hey everyone, I hope you all have wonderful holidays. I know it had to be stressful to not be together as we normally would but unfortunately it's what we have to do to stay safe. So anyway just wanted to drop a little post to wish everyone up belated happy holidays,.

I also wanted to show you how well Little Miss Inali is doing with her "leave it" command. I got a phone call and put my sandwich down on that table. She barely even notices. What a good dog and a good leave it.!

We can't go out into the people's homes to train dogs obviously, but we can help still through phone calls and internet. Give a shout if we can help you out.

Isn't she just the sweetest little girl, not even interested in my sandwich at all! I'm so proud of her!

. I've recommended this book before, an am thrilled with this repost. Lori is offering the book a crazy discount along with answers to specific questions. I strongly advise anyone having housebreaking issues to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

Imagine if your dog โ€œwent pottyโ€ only in a designated area outside. No accidents (or "on purposes") indoors either, of course! Your yard would stay cleaner and a nicer place to play! NOW, when youโ€™re home and have time, would be an excellent time to teach your dog or puppy! Iโ€™ve reduced my book to $2.99 and will be answering additional questions here on my page. Be sure to post your questions in THIS THREAD so itโ€™s easy for me and all participants to find them. (If you're seeing this through someone's share, click the picture and you'll be in the "actual" post. Or come to my LoriTheAuthor page and it will be pinned at the top.) Please feel free to share with others who may be interested. It's an easy read, and you can see a sample here at the book description page, too: https://www.amazon.com/Everything-About-House-Training-Puppies-ebook/dp/B00AZRBN54/ See you here!

Buying a pet as a gift is a terrible idea. Unless you are an parent getting a family pet, do not give a living being as a gift.

The person may love animals. They may have had them before. They may be a close friend or family member you are "100% sure" would love a new pet. They may love and had past animals, but you do not know their life and if they can devote the time and patience to train the new baby.

I live in an area of Florida that has a significant senior population. For the last 14 years, very single January, without fail, I had multiple clients who were seniors that got puppies as holiday gifts from their children or grandchildren. They were not at all happy.

Puppies are a LOT of work. You have to be ready and in the correct mindset to train a puppy properly. Almost every one of these clients told me that the pup was a "guilt gift." They kids felt guilty for not visiting and wanted to get mom or grandpa a companion.

They also told me that they were not at all lonely. They had full enjoyable lives and completely enjoying their retirement. Some had disabilities that made dealing with a rambunctious puppy extremely difficult if not impossible.

Now they felt stuck with this puppy. They felt guilty themselves because they didn't really want the dog. They felt trapped in their own homes because they had a new baby. They were often visibly angry and frustrated during the training which will never, ever work in that frame of mind.

I had to have very serious and difficult talks with people. I had to help them decide if they could not would put in the time to train the dog. If not, thendog would only get confused and rise to the top of the pack as the do not recognize a stable canine pack leader.

A dog in charge of a human translates to behavior problems. Behavior problems equal more anger and frustration for the owner. When that happens thendog tries even harder to lead, as the human is not acting like a "proper dog." It is vicious cycle and only someone with time patience and knowledge will break that pattern.

The bottomed lone is a of this holiday pets wind up going to shelters because they wind up being too much for the giftee. It may be behavior, or grooming or veterinary bills. It may be simply be that they like their life the way it is and resent the change.

The only time I find into to do this is when kids are getting a puppy from Santa. A pet that their parents are well aware that they may be the ones taking care of said puppy. If someone does actually want a pet as a gift, they are more likely to be part of the selection process. They would want to pick out their new pet, see if they bond, see the temperament etc.

Please think twice before possibly giving someone a gift that may turn their lives upside down and result in another resident at the animal shelter.

This says it perfectly. Putting a harness on a dog that pulls will only make it more comfortable for them to pull. I am absolutely not saying let them choke themselves on a collar or pull so hard they wind up running on their back feet. There are proper techniques to fix this problem. Feel free to reach out!

This is an excellent example of knowing those signs from the earlier post. This officer knew the dog was scared and may try to bite him. He also realized immediately after he freed the dog that he was in no danger. That is how quickly dogs go in and out of emotions. The dog was perfectly friendly afterwards. The officer showed no fear, only appropriate caution and avoidance to keep himself safe from a bite. Well done Sir. Many would have left this dog after seeing him be aggressive while in the fearful state.
