Barn Equipment Sale. Every Monday through Sunday 9 am to 5 pm, through June 30. Now that we have found have found vet approved loving homes for our wonderful school horses, we are moving on to sell our barn equipment. We have innumerable items including tack; full sets of show jumps; 1,000 bales of mixed grass hay; bleachers; office furniture; camp supplies; buckets; several tons of bluestone dust; and too many more items to list. In the wake of Potomac Horse Center’s impending closure, our loyal and dedicated community members have redoubled their efforts to preserve the Potomac Horse Center (PHC). They have connected with local and state representatives and are diligently working to find a resolution. Since time is of the essence, the community has asked that PHC share a petition link (see below) and a link to the Potomac Horse Center Foundation’s Square page in hopes that the community will support PHC with signatures and donations.

With a heavy heart, the Potomac Horse Center (PHC) is announcing its closure on Monday, July 22, 2024.  Lessons will continue uninterrupted through June 16th, which is the last day of our Late Spring session. Hilary provides scores and comments on a USDF test sheet. Later this spring, Hilary will visit PHC for a test review clinic! Are you a jump rider? Choose a US Eventing Association (USEA) test and we will add a jump round to your score.

We are excited to welcome riders back for lessons! Clients must wear clean clothes and disinfect their boots and hands at the check-in desk. Clothes and boots that have been worn at other barns or come in contact with outside horses must be cleaned and disinfected before being worn on PHC property.

We regret to inform you that several Potomac Horse Center horses are currently sick with an as yet undiagnosed illness. In order to prevent further spread of the illness, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all lessons until Friday, March 8 while we await test results.

The health and safety of horses at PHC and in the local equine community are our top priority. We are working closely with veterinarians to address the situation and implement necessary precautions.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this challenging time. We will provide updates as soon as possible regarding the resumption of lessons. Thank you for your support.

Starting on Monday, riders should check-in for their lessons at the entrance to our temporary barn (formerly the small arena). From the parking lot, walk along the road between the New School and the Main Barn until you reach the new stabling area. Once inside, riders can find the check-in table as well as our helmets and paddock boots, just as we had in the Main Barn. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility!

What a day! A huge thank you to Meadowbrook Stables for hosting an amazing show. We are SO PROUD of our riders and the efforts they put forth today. Our High School Team finished fourth overall with Kaitlyn K. qualifying for Zones in JV Novice on the Flat. Our Middle School Team (Charlie, Kate, and Michaela) ended the day as Champions and earned a team spot at Zones. Middle School rider Kate will also head to Zones as an individual rider in both Future Novice on the Flat and Over Fences. We thank our fabulous team captain, Erica, for her leadership this season—you will be missed! Thank you to Caitlin—our very own Super Woman— for guiding everyone through the day. ❤️ On to Zones in March! LET’S GO!!!

REGISTRATION STARTS TOMORROW!

Thank you to everyone for bearing with us while we finalize the lesson schedule to reflect our adjusted ring use. For this week only (January 29-February 4) priority will be given to current clients and those new clients who have already had their evaluation ride.

For the foreseeable future, lessons will be pay-as-you-go as we cannot guarantee make up lessons. Thank you for your understanding.

Lastly, we are so grateful for the outpouring of support as we get ready to move into our temporary accommodations. ❤️ We look forward to sharing pictures soon!

The winter weather wins! Due to the cold temperatures and uncertain forecast, we are canceling lessons today, January 18 through Monday, January 22. We will resume normal lessons on Tuesday, January 23. We are busy wrapping up our move out of the Main Barn and into our temporary space. Our Story

The Potomac Horse Center (PHC) is located adjacent to the Muddy Branch Stream Valley Park in North Potomac, Maryland. It was founded in the late 1950's by F.G."Stretch" Harting, and quickly became a premiere international equestrian center. Currently operated under the direction of the Novograd family of New York's Claremont Riding Academy, PHC continues its long standing tradition of excellence.
