Tomorrow is Saturday, the day we hope is flooded with adoptions. We NEED them. We have 1 open cage tonight, 24 dogs available for adoption, and a weekend ahead. Dawn is breaking our hearts, this adorable little rabbit is just the sweetest soul and has spent her life being overbred and has lots of patchy and missing fur. Despite her prior life, Dawn is the most gentle and kind natured pup who loves everyone she has met here and even playing dress up - look at those ears and tutu! She has done well with other dogs too. Dawn desperately deserves a loving and comfy home to be cherished in. ❤️

Meet our longest residents, Bernie and Quinn!

Bernie is around 2yrs. old and 70lbs., he enjoys playing in all forms - by himself, with people and next to other pups! Bernie has a lot of energy but is happy to keep himself entertained with a good toy. He understands Spanish too and I did I mention how crazy handsome he is? ❤️

GET YOUR COUNTY DOG LICENSE!!
LESS THAN 3 WEEKS LEFT TO REGISTER!
IT'S OHIO STATE LAW!

Are your dogs registered and do you have the Lorain County dog license on your dog(s) to prove it?

If not, make sure you get your 2024 dog license for $26 BEFORE JANUARY 31ST!! After that, you’re considered late for the year and the price will then be $52 as a penalty fee.

Dogs are considered property in Ohio (just like your car is). You must have your dog registered in the county where you reside and the dog license must be displayed on your dog's collar or harness at all times. You get your vehicle registration sticker every year on your birthday, so make sure you get your dog(s) license every year in January!!

Any law enforcement officer (Police, Sheriff, Dog Warden) can give you a citation on the spot for simply not having a county dog license displayed on your dog(s). A $26 county dog license could possibly save you $300-$500 or more in citations…PER DOG!! Think about that the next time you take your dog out for a walk or just put your dog outside to go potty!!

Do not confuse the county dog license tag with your rabies tag from your vet. They are also NOT the kind of tags you get engraved from Petsmart or Walmart that have the pretty little rhinestones with your name/dog‘s name/phone number on them. Microchips do NOT make your dog legally registered either. ONLY a legitimate Lorain County dog license counts!

You can purchase a county dog license online with the Lorain County Auditor’s office, in person at the Lorain County Dog Kennel, or in person at any Drugmart store. The Auditor website has a list of other vendors as well. There are options for 3 year, lifetime and a kennel license too (can only be purchased from the Auditor's office). To obtain a kennel license, you must meet the required definition for a “dog kennel” per Ohio state law. If you change your phone number or address after you register your dog(s), make sure you update the county auditor with your new contact info! If your dog(s) should happen to get loose, the dog warden deputies cannot contact you if your info is not current!!

**If you have a vicious, dangerous, or nuisance dog that has been deemed by a court, you MUST register your dog with…and you can ONLY purchase a dangerous dog license from…the LC Auditor's office!! Those types of licenses cannot be registered or purchased anywhere else, per Ohio state law.**

Any Questions?? Call LCDK or look up Ohio dog laws in the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 955. Make sure you also know your municipal (city) ordinances, village or township zoning/ordinance/resolutions too! You should know your state and local laws, especially when it’s pertaining to your dogs/animals, which are your property and your responsibility.

And…before you say it…THE COUNTY DOG KENNEL AND DOG LICENSE ARE NOT PART OF THE GENERAL FUND, which means…NOT TAX DOLLARS!!!

SO, DON'T FORGET TO GET YOUR LORAIN COUNTY DOG LICENSE FOR THIS YEAR… AND EVERY YEAR!!!
