You may have heard that there is a mysterious respiratory illness increasingly reported in dogs around the country. Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, nasal & eye discharge, fever, anorexia, and lethargy.

The cause of Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRD) is currently unknown. Multiple agencies are working to identify the pathogen causing these respiratory symptoms. Some dogs presenting with respiratory illness have been found to have infections with more common diseases like bordetella or influenza. However, there is a subset of dogs with respiratory illness that is more severe, which investigators are looking at more closely.

We recommend keeping your dog current with vaccinations for canine influenza, bordetella, and parainfluenza, and when possible, keeping your dog away from unfamiliar dogs - particularly if your dog has an underlying health condition, is a puppy or a senior.

If your dog is currently ill, keep your pet away from other dogs for 30 days and contact us to make an appointment. If you'd like to get your dog caught up on vaccinations, we can help with that too!

We'd love to see your favorite photo of your feline friend(s).
