Friends of The North Smithfield Animal Shelter is a volunteer only run organization. Although the Town of North Smithfield has one full time paid animal control officer, fund raisers, adoption events and other various events are run collectively by people willing to donate their time and services! We are so thankful for all of them! If you would like to become a volunteer, you must be at least 18

years of age. Please call the Animal Shelter, or drop by to fill out a volunteer application. All cats available for adoption are Feline Leukemia / Feline Aids tested, vaccinated and spayed/neutered (if old enough) before adoption. All of our dogs available for adoption are Heartworm and Lyme tested, vaccinated and spayed/neutered (if old enough) before adoption. We even have small animals and birds for adoption from time to time!

Did you know that The Friends of the North Smithfield Animal Shelter have been providing volunteer services in the shelter since 1978? Helping to foster a humane atmosphere for the well-being of animals awaiting their “forever” home is our passion. In addition, The Friends provide veterinary care (including the spay/neuter of all cats and dogs that come into the shelter); provide high-quality testing and medication for various illnesses and diseases; microchip all animals as needed; and provide or update inoculations on all animals including rabies, which is state-mandated.

Donations from kind folks who care about animals and support what The Friends do are welcome and very much appreciated!

Our SECOND round of Snip and Clip, Drop & Chop, Spay and Neuter it Helps A LOT Clinic is complete and was another major success. A total of 88 cats were served through this collaborative effort. 64 males were neutered and 24 females were spayed! ✂️

Each cat received the following through this clinic:
🐈‍⬛️ An exam by a licensed veterinarian.
🐈‍⬛️ Spay/Neuter
🐈‍⬛️ FVRCP
🐈‍⬛️ Rabies
🐈‍⬛️ Dose of Revolution
🐈‍⬛️ Post op pain meds and fluids (females)
🐈‍⬛️ Mani and Pedi for our indoor friends.
🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀

Wait there's more! Some owners elected additional services at a low cost rate such as microchipping, de-wormer, FIV/Feline Leukemia testing, etc.

It doesn't stop there! Some cats required even further medical attention beyond spay/neuter packages. Thanks to our wonderful veterinarians and team who went above and beyond for some owners who required additional funding, we found the funding to make sure these necessary services took place! Some of these procedures included, testing for heart murmurs, wound repairs, dental extractions, hernia repairs, antibiotics, additional medications, xrays, etc.

When organizations/people come together, it really does make a difference.💪

We would first like to 🗣 our THREE most favorite veterinarians who made this all possible. Dr. Lorenson, Dr. Jackson, and Dr. Elias. Round of applause 👏👏👏👏 for these three lovely ladies for providing these services. We adore you all!🩷

Next up, we would like to thank our funders for contributing to this much needed service. Thanks to them, the owners of these 88 cats were only financially responsible for a small portion of the cost of the spay/neuter package.

Round 3 has already started!!! 💪💪💪💪

‼️SCAM ALERT‼️ The only legitimate physical lost pet search and rescue assistance that we are familiar with locally are Missing Dogs Massachusetts, Hawkeye Aerial Systems, Packleader PetTrackers, and Wandering Paws K9. For every lost pet post, we’ve been seeing an increasing number of fake lost pet assistance pages commenting or being referred. We’ve tried to keep up with blocking them on our page, but please be diligent as these scammers try to take advantage of worried people who are desperate to find their lost pet, taking their money and disappearing. Don’t fall victim to these scammers. Huge thanks to those who run all of the state-wide and lost pet posting pages such as RI Lost Pets, MA Lost Pets, CT Lost Pets and all the local sub-pages. They are a diligent group of volunteers who work hard to post and network lost pets all over. Be aware folks, there is a scam for everything these days.
