🚨July Pack Walks🚨

Just $5 per dog. Walk begins at 7:00pm. Pack walks are around 2 miles and count towards earning your AKC FIT Dog Title.

Benefits Group Walks:
• Structured Socialization
• Consistent Positive Reinforcement
• Dogs Learn from Each Other
• Great Exercise
• Great Training
• Builds a Strong Bond
• Teaches Neutrality

Anyone can participate! As long as your dog is fully vaccinated. We want your dog to walk well on leash and be able to maintain a “heel” position prior to group walking. We also want your dog to be comfortable with the other dogs participating. If your dog displays reactive behavior, we need to work on managing that first.

Please contact us to register via call/text (812)241-7249 or email at [email protected]

Why is it important for your dog to do a down stay?

1) It’s a great impulse control exercise.
2) Great alternative for undesirable behaviors.
3) Builds foundations for the “place” command and teaching “clam & settle”.

Contact us today to work on building a solid down stay!

Due to the heat, we are moving tonight’s 7pm Pack Walk from ISU Memorial Stadium to Dobbs Park. This should keep us out of the sun and paws off of hot concrete!

We have had such beautiful weather this week, so a couple of our AKC Urban Canine teams took advantage of it and worked in downtown Terre Haute! Such a great night of training!

06/11/2024

Unfortunately, we have seen so many dog bites/attacks on children. We see it way more often than you could ever imagine and every case is extremely heartbreaking. My heart aches for Ezra's family and I pray for healing and peace for them. We are sharing this story in hopes that it will open the eyes of many and save a child and a dog from losing their life.

I love dogs! I love dogs so much that I chose a profession where I can work with them daily and better human/canine relationships to make life with a dog extremely rewarding. Prior to becoming a professional dog trainer, I spent 10 years as a veterinary assistant caring for dogs and educating owners on canine health and wellness. I honestly cannot remember a time growing up where we didn't have a multi dog household. We love them and treat them like family!
This being said, I am now a mom of two boys under the age of 3 years old. Our dynamic with our dogs at home changed greatly when I first found out I was pregnant (training, setting boundaries and expectations should begin long before a child ever enters the home.) Yes, my dogs are well trained. Yes, my dogs are very friendly and have NEVER shown any signs of aggression. But, we NEVER leave the dogs and kids unsupervised or unattended. I wanted to share the structure that we implement in our household to keep everyone safe!

Structure with Kids:

•Never approach an unfamiliar dog.
•Never approach our dog's kennel/bed unless instructed to.
•Not allowed to contact play with our dogs (fetch is fine, but no tugging with toys or physical play).
•Not allowed to touch dog food/toys unless instructed to help.
•Must be respectful of the dog when petting/interacting.
•If the dog walks away, do not follow. They need a break.
•I point out stress signals to the kids and remove them when needed.

Structure with Dogs:

•Never allowed to sleep with the kids and not allowed furniture privileges.
•Never allowed to approach the child if they are playing on the floor.
•Not allowed to "protect" or "guard" the kids.
•Not allowed to "beg" or sit near the kids while they are eating.
•Must be kenneled, outside, or have a door shut while the kids are sleeping.
•We want mutual respect between the dogs and kids so everyone can live happily and safely!

Things to remember about dogs:

•We cannot anthropomorphize (attribution of human traits, feelings, and behaviors on dogs) dogs, doing so is extremely dangerous!
•A dog should never be allowed to protect or guard a child.
•A dog should never be a "nanny".
•A dog is a natural predator and these instincts can kick in at any time.
•A dog should never be unattended/unsupervised with a child.
•If a dog is showing aggressive behavioral problems, they should never interact with kids. (and no, the child should not be the one implementing the training).
•Yes, "rage syndrome" is real and does happen!

This Husky had never shown signs of aggression and was with this family for a long time. Husky’s are also known for being great dogs for families with kids.

We want everyone in the home to be safe and happy!

If you have any questions or concerns about kids and dogs in your household, please feel free to reach out to us, or talk with your veterinarian about these issues!

Jimmy passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen Test!

Jimmy was adopted through the Terre Haute Humane Society New Leash On Life Program! He was trained by inmates at the FCI and left the facility with the skills required to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test. Dogs from this program are crate trained and know basic good manners!

An emergency stop, also known as a "flying down" or "drop", is an essential and potentially life saving skill for dogs to learn. It allows you to stop your dog in their tracks when needed, such as to keep them away from busy roads, runners, or bicycles, or to stop them from chasing something they shouldn't be.

Our KIDZ & K9s program is set to begin the first week of June! This course is dedicated to teaching canine body language, safety, and handling.

Age Requirements: each child will need an adult present to help with handling. Child must be able to sit for the learning portion and follow basic instructions. We are using parent discretion for the minimum age and 14 years old as our maximum age for class.

Dog Requirements: all dogs must be fully vetted with Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella Vaccines. Dogs attending class must be controllable on leash, no jumping, vocalizing, or display reactive/aggressive behavior towards others.

We feel it’s extremely important that our children know basic dog safety and basic handling skills to keep everyone safe!

Class size will be limited! Please reach out for more information or to hold your spot in class!

I’m pretty sure anyone going through the process of training their dog could use this shirt! Just when I think I’ve got it right, this dog is always quick to humble me. But I’ll admit, us humans are typically the problem🤷‍♀️

It’s a little windy out there but we are still planning on our Social Obedience Class tonight at 6:30pm at Deming Park at the VFW shelter near the swimming pool!
