Here we go—four days of intense learning ahead! Stepping back from private practice has given me the space to explore new ways to support my community, using my 17 years of experience in vet med, in addition to training and behavior, from private practice to shelter work to surgical field projects in developing countries. I’m beyond excited to kick things off with this first lecture, one of several opportunities to turn these new ideas I've got, into action.

Because the love of an animal should be for everyone—but as pet ownership becomes increasingly out of reach, we need to acknowledge the growing gap. If you’ve ever said, “If you can’t afford a pet, you shouldn’t have one,” it might be time for a mindset shift (and let’s be real, you’re probably burnt out). Instead of judgment, we need to focus on solutions and support. Let’s start that conversation now.

✨ TNB Glow Up! ✨

Today's glow up features Atlas, a 4 year old Lab/Catahoula mix. Atlas's first class at TNB was House Dog Obedience 1 back in 2023. Since then, Atlas and his handler Mark have completed HDO 2 & 3, a handful of our specialty classes including agility, and even earned their therapy dog certification in 2024.

Yukon also learned a chin rest in Cooperative Care class with trainer and vet tech, Marissa! Mom has been using the chin rest in her lap so she can clean those bulldog folds around his eyes and face. This used to be a huge battle for Yukon and now he happily tolerates it! Way to go team Yukon!

Entry Fee: $18 per class before March 8, 2025 ($23 per class for late / day of show entries)

🐾 Nose Work Mock Trial 🐾

Want to experience a trial-like environment with your Nose Work dog without the actual stress of a real competition?! Then join us for this Mock Trial that will simulate the real deal! All elements will be offered: Interiors, Exteriors, Containers and Vehicles. Enter all four just like a real trial OR pick and choose which you would like to practice with your dog.

Mock Trial Location will be at a large Warehouse in Tonawanda, conveniently located off the thruway. We will have levels NW1-NW3 offered. Hides will be nested for higher levels. The Mock Trial site owners are graciously allowing us to use the vehicles that they have onsite. Please enter the Vehicles element only if your dog does not indicate in a way that might cause damage to the vehicles.

📅 Date: Saturday March 8th
🕒 Time: First level will begin at 9AM. Pending your level, you will receive an email with instructions on when to arrive

🐾 Canine Good Citizen Prep Class 🐾

Have you recently finished HDO Levels 1, 2, or 3? Ready for the next challenge?! Prepare your dog to become a Canine Good Citizen with our comprehensive prep class! This class focuses on teaching and reinforcing the skills required to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. We cover essential behaviors such as accepting friendly strangers, sitting politely for petting, walking on a loose lead, and more. The final class will include the CGC test, giving your dog the opportunity to earn their CGC certification.

Next session with Copper and the Head Collar! Teaching him to find and walk in heel position as well as yield to the collar pressure. Once it's safe to walk and not an icy tundra 🥶 Copper will generalize all these skills outside. #daytraining

Copper is enrolled in our Day Training Program. Cheryl's has been conditioning him to the Head Collar for walks. Here is one of their first sessions where she teaches Copper to let her put it on and to move around with it, without pawing at or fighting it. Tuesday afternoon Intro to Scent Work wrapped up their final class this week! These teams have become so incredibly confident and driven for the game! Handlers started to move around with their dogs and practiced keeping them at the baited box so that they know exactly what to do when we start Level 2: Pairing Puzzles. If you want to join in on all the Scent Work fun (we have SO many Scent Work classes to choose from!) Then register for our next session of Intro to Scent Work starting March 5th at 7:30 PM with Certified Nose Work Instructor, Mary!

Yeah! One of my favorite teams right here 🥰 I've been doing some agility handling with Star, bit Dad likes to practice at home, too. So we put a few skills together at our last lesson!

Teaching "switch" in HDO Level 2!

Stevie conquered the tunnel during her solo 30 minute Puzzle Room session! This dog has overcome many fears because her owner is determined not to pet her world to get smaller, and she gets her out on a very regular basis to keep her exploring and building confidence in new environments. The Puzzle Room is a great way to provide this kind of enrichment for your dog in a safe and controlled space!
