Happy 4th of July to our family and friends!! Celebrating freedom,
unity, and the red, white, and blue today. Wishing everyone a safe and joyful Independence Day filled with BBQs (no sharing with our furry friends), fireworks, and quality time with loved ones. Let freedom ring!

June is recognized as . This time of year coincides with the peak of kitten births, resulting in numerous kittens ending up in local shelters, eagerly awaiting adoption.

When considering adopting a new furry feline, remember the 3 P’s:

1. Patience: Patience is critically important when you bring your new cat/kitten home. Introductions to the family and other pets must be time appropriately.
2. Planning should start before brining your new furry friend home to ensure their needs are met.
3. Preparation: Such things like bowls, litterbox, cat litter, food and toys should be purchased and set up in anticipation for their arrival home.

Although we have made progress in recent years, millions of unwanted dogs and cats are euthanized each year, including puppies and kittens. The good news is that you can make a difference!

By having your pet spayed or neutered, you will do your part to prevent the birth of unwanted animals. What’s more, you could be setting your pet up for a longer life, as studies have repeatedly shown that spayed or neutered dogs and cats live longer, on average, than intact pets. This advantage is likely due to the health and behavioral benefits of the procedure.

If your pet is experiencing an emergency outside of regular business hours, please call Green Acres Animal Hospital/ Northtowns Veterinary Emergency, located in Tonawanda, at 716-213-0283 or Grand Island Small Animal Hospital at 716-773-7646. Both locations are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for emergency services.

We provide the best possible general, emergency and specialty veterinary care for your pet. Whether performing complex surgery or diagnosing and treating illness, our veterinarians and staff are committed to providing high quality care with state of the art equipment. We stress preventative care for early detection of diseases utilizing our in-house laboratory, digital radiology and ultrasound services.
