It is with the greatest sadness and heaviest hearts that we share the news of the sudden and tragic loss of one of the most beloved members of our , our bestest Berner buddy, Cooper. We learned of Cooper's passing over the weekend, and we have been completely and utterly devastated ever since. This is such a tremendous loss for PPWNY, but we cannot even begin to imagine how difficult it has been for Cooper's humans. Cooper was only 5 years young, so nothing could have prepared them to have to say goodbye to their cherished furbaby so soon. With their permission, we wanted to share some of our favorite stories and photo memories in his honor.
Cooper was an instant favorite amongst every staff member, intern and furry friend he ever met. His personality was larger than life, and there wasn't a single day that went by that he didn't make us smile and laugh for one reason or another. He was known to launch himself into the knees of the staff without notice anytime he was feeling feisty and wanted pets or treats. The way he flirted with his pals and would flop on his back, belly up, when he wanted their attention was one of his signature moves. You could also hear him coming from a mile away because he snorted like a pig when he found something good to sniff. His mom often referred to him as Eeyore, and nothing could have described him more perfectly.
Cooper was as close to a perfect daycare playmate as can be, and he was always our go-to meet and greet furiend on Wednesday's and Friday's. He knew when to go full steam ahead and when to take breaks. He would pick a corner of the room for his power naps, but he always kept an eye on the action in case he wanted to join in when the mood was right. Every pup who met Cooper showed him such incredible respect, it was fascinating to witness. He was a true ladies' man at heart, but Cooper got along with everyone. Literally everyone. Big dogs, small dogs, puppies, senior dogs, rough players, zoomers, and fellow couch potatoes. In true Berner fashion, Cooper thrived in the winter and loathed the outdoors when the weather got warmer. You would never catch him near the pools or sunbathing, usually because he refused to leave the comfort of the air-conditioned playroom during the summer months. His stubbornness was one of his most endearing qualities and one that we will all miss the most. No one ever told Cooper what to do. He "suffered" from selective hearing, and if you didn't have a treat to bribe him with, you would be ignored until you offered him something worthwhile.
Cooper's annual Superman Halloween costume earned him the nickname Super Cooper, and the name suited him perfectly. Cooper was super in every sense of the word, and his loss has left a tremendous hole in our hearts. We ask all of you to please send love and healing thoughts to his amazing humans, John, Maria, and Maris. There are no words to describe how sorry we are for their loss, and we hope these beautiful memories we shared can help begin to heal their broken hearts. 😢💔🙏
Rest easy, sweet boy. We hope you are enjoying all of the snow and cheese your heart desires over the rainbow bridge. We miss you so much already, and PPWNY will never be the same without you. 😭🌈☃️❄️🧀🖤🧡🤍
