We are SO excited to introduce the newest addition to the North King Animal Clinic staff — Dr. Calvin Carrington!

A native of Western Massachusetts, Dr. Carrington has had a lifelong passion for animal care, nurtured from his early days working with his grandfather’s dairy cattle and participating in local 4-H groups.

Dr. Carrington earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2016, followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University in 2020. His career began in urgent care at the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital in South Deerfield, enhancing his skills in emergency veterinary medicine. His time spent at PetVet in Belchertown then brought him to his true passion: animal wellness and prevention.

Today, he also practices at Paws Finding Peace, a kind and compassionate at-home euthanasia service. Dr. Carrington recently completed the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy (CAETA) Peaceful Euthanasia Master Program and he is proudly Fear Free Certified. His dedication across various aspects of veterinary medicine underscores his commitment to supporting pets and their families through all stages of life.

When not at work, Dr. Carrington loves hiking, traveling, and spending quality time at home with his partner and their five pets: puppy Polly and handsome Blomb (pictured above), and their three wonderful felines: Francis, Freya, and Fern.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Carrington to our community! We also want to assure you that Dr. Owen is not going anywhere! Her commitment to your pets remains unchanged, and her hours will continue as usual. We are simply growing our team to better serve the needs of you and your beloved pets.

COVID-19 Update: Entry permitted with mandatory mask use.

You will be able to come into our facility provided that you wear a mask at all times, regardless of your vaccination status. Your mask must cover both your nose and mouth. Please sanitize your hands upon arrival. If you would prefer to still have a curbside appointment, please call us from your vehicle and let us know.

We are monitoring the numbers and hope to further relax our protocols soon.

As many of you may know, the CDC has recently relaxed its recommendations on social distancing and mask-wearing. Since then, we have received a deluge of phone calls inquiring about whether or not we are allowing our clients back into the building.

As Dr. Owen is of a particularly vulnerable demographic, we are exercising additional caution for the time being as we work on transitioning back to the way things were before. This year has been immensely challenging for us, as well as for the entire veterinary industry and believe us— we are very eager for things to return to normal!

However, for now, we are still not allowing clients in the building and will continue our curbside service. We also request that our clients continue to wear masks when interacting with our staff as some staff members still need their vaccination. We will send out another email with updates in the near future, so please be on the lookout for that.

Thank you for your patience and understanding and please stay well!

We got some very sad news yesterday that one of our clients passed away suddenly and left behind his handsome pup, Patches. Westfield Animal Control has him and is looking for a home for him. Patches is 7-years-old and is super sweet. He is neutered and in great health. He does have quite a significant (and adorable) overbite! Please contact Westfield Animal Control at 413-564-3129 if you are interested in adopting Patches!

COVID-19 Update: Yes, we're open!

Although a shelter-in-place order has been declared, we are an essential service and will remain open as long as our staff is healthy.

Our suppliers have assured us that they don't anticipate any major disruptions in the supply of pet food or medications.

We also wanted to thank all of you for supporting us and other local businesses during this difficult time. We'd be happy to refill any food and prescription requests for you! We even offer delivery services on many products.

We will be having reduced ours due to our lower volume of appointments and will be posting updated schedules on our Facebook soon.

03/16/2020

In an effort to protect our staff and our clients from the spread of COVID-19, we are implementing some temporary measures as recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Effectively immediately, we are cancelling all elective services, such as annual examinations, vaccinations, nail trims, etc. We will be contacting our clients closer to the day of their intended appointment to notify them. We will remain open to care for any pets with urgent issues, as well as dispense any medications or prescription diets.

However, our doors will be locked and we request that you call us, if possible, from your vehicle to notify us that you have arrived for your pet’s appointment. If you do not have a cell phone, please knock on our front door to let us know you are here, but continue to wait in your vehicle afterward.

Our staff will greet you at your car, discuss your pet's history and progress, and bring your pet into the exam room while you wait in your vehicle. After the exam, our staff will review the findings with you, return your pet, and collect payment.
If you need to pick up any medications or prescription diets, please call us first to have your items set aside. We will collect payment over the phone, and have you call us from your vehicle when you arrive, and we will bring your items to you.

We understand that this procedure is inconvenient and we apologize for any difficulty this may cause. We will closely follow recommendations from the government and the AVMA and keep you updated.

Please let us know if you feel you need any additional accommodations during this time.

URGENT: Poor little Isaac Franklin (answers to Franky) escaped from Crestview Drive in Florence yesterday. He has last sighted the next street over at 1pm yesterday. Issac lives on Avis Circle in Florence so perhaps he's trying to make his way there?

Isaac can be very nervous or shy so DO NOT CHASE! Please call (561) 459-6846 with any information or sightings OR the Northampton Police at (413) 587-1100.

He might be a little scrappier and longer-haired than this picture, and his fur tends to look a little lighter the longer it is.

Brrrr, it's sooooo cold! But, if you think that recent nighttime temperatures dropping into the teens is going to kill off the adult deer ticks crawling just about everywhere these days... well, think again! The killing frost may finish off your garden and the pesky mosquitoes that have remained around, but not the deer ticks. These ticks just don't die from the cold.

This is why we recommend year-round tick prevention. Read more below!

Night time temperatures dropping into the 20's does NOT kill adult deer ticks.
