I love flying around the ring with my girl

Safe to say Terra had a successful cluster in Amana, IA this past weekend. As most know, Terra has only shown specialty weekends as she grows up (other than a couple AB shows as a baby). That being said, she’s been super successful thus far. We went to Iowa for the Iowa Brittany Club specialty’s and supported entries.

Fri: WB/BOW
Sat: RWB
Sun: RWB at the supported entry and WB/BBE/OH at the specialty
Mon: WB/BOW/BOS/OH/OHG4 for her 2nd major over specials!

With both majors, she’s halfway to her championship and I couldn’t be happier. While she isn’t always easy to show, I love being at the end of her lead.

Are you still calling this breed by *that* name?

The Brittany was referred to as the Brittany Spaniel for many years, but because Brittanies acted more like pointers than spaniels in the field (often freezing, or pointing out game), it often lead to a confusing debate over its classification. The breed carried the markings of a spaniel, but its field behavior belied its “spaniel-ness.” In 1982, the AKC dropped the word, “spaniel” from the breed name at the behest of the national breed club for the aforementioned reasons.

When all is said and done, the Brittany is a pointing breed so versatile as a gun dog that it’s been called the “canine over-achiever” because it can point and retrieve (a more accurate descriptive than the Brittany being the only spaniel that pointed to game). Brittanies are suited to work in different types of terrain, be it densely covered or open, are extremely biddable, and, if made a member of the family, are easy to train.

Adora (FKA Petal) has been at bird dog camp for just under a week and already placed in her first field trial! 3rd place in open puppy! Thanks to Patrick at for running/training Adora in the field. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this little kid!

A very snowy day well spent at the Winnegamie Dog Club show in Oshkosh, WI yesterday. Basil won winners dog and best of winners for his first point towards his championship! To top it off, his dad, T went best of breed!
