Pancreatitis is a serious condition that often surfaces around Thanksgiving, particularly in dogs who indulge in rich, fatty foods. This inflammation of the pancreas can cause severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and lethargy.
During the holiday season, pets may sneak table scraps or are fed fatty leftovers, which put them at an increased risk. Turkey skin, gravy, and other rich foods can trigger this painful and potentially dangerous condition. To keep your furry friends safe and healthy by avoiding feeding them human food and stick to their regular diet! If you suspect your dog may have pancreatitis, seek veterinary care IMMEDIATELY! 🐶🍗 #PetHealth #ThanksgivingSafety #PancreatitisAwareness
Just some purr-spective from your furry friend… 😺💭
Lyme disease is a serious and increasingly prevalent tick-borne illness that affects dogs. At Creekside Animal Clinic, 1 in 13 dogs that walk through our doors and is tested for this disease test POSITIVE (READ THAT AGAIN… 1 IN 13 DOGS)! Prevention and knowledge about this disease is KEY to protecting your furry friend.
Vaccination is a key component of preventing Lyme disease in dogs. While not a substitute for tick control measures, the vaccine provides an additional layer of protection. This is particularly important for dogs living in (or visiting) areas where ticks are prevalent. In our local area we have a lot of highly wooded areas, especially with the Cuyahoga National Park in our back yard, which is a “hot bed” for tick activity. Dogs that are found to be outside a significant amount of time OR in areas that are highly wooded should be vaccinated. The vaccine works by helping the dog's immune system recognize and combat the Lyme disease bacteria before it can cause illness.
In addition to vaccination, tick prevention should be a fundamental part of your dog's health regimen! This includes the use of tick-preventative products prescribed by one of our veterinarians. Regularly checking your dog for ticks, especially after outdoor activities, and maintaining a tick-free yard by managing vegetation and using tick-control products can significantly reduce the risk of Lyme disease.
By combining vaccination with diligent tick prevention strategies, you are setting your pet up for success to ensure that your dog remains healthy and free from this potentially debilitating disease!
