🇺🇸🐾 Happy 4th of July to Our Fabulous Furry Friends! 🐶🐱🎇

Whether your pet barks or purrs, let’s make this holiday fun, festive, and safe for everyone!

From all of us at VCA Old Tappan Veterinary Hospital, we wish you and your pets a safe, happy, and tail-wagging Independence Day! We will be closed on Friday July 4th and re-opening on Saturday July 5th. If your pet has an emergency that cannot wait please visit your nearest Emergency Facility. We recommend Blue Pearl Pet Hospital located at 545 NJ-17, Paramus, NJ 07652, Phone 201-527-6699.

🎆 Did you know? More cats and dogs go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. Fireworks, loud noises, and crowded cookouts can be scary for them.

Here are some vet-approved safety tips for your four-legged family:

🐶🐱 1. Keep Pets Indoors
Fireworks = scary stuff! Set up a quiet, cozy hideaway with a bed, calming music, or even a white noise machine. Let cats find their favorite hiding spot and leave them be.

💥 2. ID Tags & Microchips
Double check that your pet’s ID tags are secure and up to date. Even indoor cats can bolt when frightened!

🍗 3. No BBQ Scraps for Fluffy
Bones, onions, garlic, and alcohol can be toxic to pets. Stick to treats made for cats and dogs only!

🧨 4. Say No to Fireworks & Glow Sticks
Sparklers, fireworks, glow jewelry, and lighter fluid can be very dangerous if chewed on. Keep them well out of paw’s reach!

🌡️ 5. Keep Cool, Stay Hydrated
Make sure your pets have access to cool water and a shady spot to relax — especially if you’re celebrating outdoors.

🎉 Let’s celebrate with cuddles, not chaos!

🔥🐾 Hot Pavement = Hot Paws! Protect Those Precious Feet 🐶🐱☀️
Old Tappan Veterinary Hospital's Summer PSA!

It’s sunny, it’s beautiful... but that sidewalk? It’s SCORCHING! 😬

Your pet’s paws aren’t flip-flop proof. Asphalt and concrete can reach over 130°F on a 90°F day — enough to cause burns in just 60 seconds! 😱

👣 Try this test:
Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds.
Too hot for you? It’s too hot for them!

🐾 Paw-Safe Tips from Your Friendly Vet:
✅ Walk early in the morning or after sunset
✅ Stick to grass or shady paths
✅ Use protective booties if needed (bonus: they look cute too!)
✅ Moisturize paw pads with pet-safe balm to prevent cracking
✅ Carry them if you must (yes, even your grumpy cat might appreciate it!) 😼👜

🚨 Watch for signs of paw burns:
Limping, licking feet, red or blistered paw pads? Get them checked out ASAP!

Keep those paws cool, and your pets cooler!
Let’s walk smart this summer. 🐾💛

🌞🐾 Paws Off the Heat! Summer Pet Tips from Your Friends at VCA Old Tappan Veterinary Hospital 🐶🐱🍉

Hey pet parents! As temps rise, let’s make sure our four-legged buddies stay cool, comfy, and safe. Here are some sizzlin’ tips to beat the summer heat! 🔥❄️

🐾 1. Hydration Station!
Always keep fresh, cool water available. Add ice cubes for bonus tail wags! 🧊💧

🐾 2. Shade Brigade!
Create shady spots in your yard or during walks. Trees, umbrellas, or a cute pop-up tent – your pet’s new chill-out zone! 😎🌳

🐾 3. Walk Smart
Only walk early in the morning or late evening – hot pavement = ouch! (If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!) 🐾🔥

🐾 4. Pupsicles, Anyone?
Make frozen treats with peanut butter, banana, and plain yogurt. Healthy, tasty, and FUN! 🍌🐕🍦

🐾 5. No Parked Pets
Never leave pets in a parked car, even for a minute. Temps rise FAST – it’s a big no-no! 🚫🚗

🐾 6. Groom for Cool
Ask your vet if a summer trim is right for your breed. Just don’t shave them unless your vet says so – fur helps regulate temperature too! ✂️🐩

🐾 7. Splash Zone!
Set up a kiddie pool or sprinkler for water-loving dogs. Wet paws = happy paws! 💦🐾

🐾 8. Watch for Signs of Overheating
Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or red gums? Call your vet ASAP. Better safe than sorry! 🚨🐾

Let’s make this summer paws-itively awesome for our pets! 🐕❤️🐾 Share a pic of your pet staying cool in the comments! 📸👇

🐾 Meet Egypt! 🐾

This handsome guy is a 7-year-old Domestic Shorthair with a big personality—and until recently, a little too much of everything else!

When Egypt first came to us, he tipped the scales at 22.9 pounds, which put him well into the overweight category for his breed and age. But don’t worry—he’s been making some amazing progress! With the help of our compassionate veterinary team, a specialized metabolic diet, and a consistent exercise routine, Egypt has already slimmed down to 20.6 pounds. 🎉

His journey isn’t just about numbers—it’s about giving him the energy and health to enjoy his golden years to the fullest. He's currently being fostered by one of our dedicated team members who ensures he's getting lots of love, movement, and the right nutrition every day.

We’re so proud of Egypt, and we’re excited to share his progress with you! If you have a pet who struggles with weight, dietary issues, or other health concerns, we're here to help. Our clinic offers personalized nutritional guidance tailored to your pet’s specific needs—even if they have comorbidities or special conditions.

🐱 Follow along as Egypt continues his weight-loss journey—you’ll be inspired by what a little support, structure, and snuggles can do!
