(5)

Please contact Smoke Rise Kennel at 419-652-3798 for more information or to make reservations. All boarders must be current on Rabies, DHLPP, and Bordatella (kennel cough) vaccinations. Cash and personal checks are accepted for payment. We do not accept CREDIT or DEBIT cards. The concrete and cinder block building is heated with 4x4 foot interior bedding areas that are attached via a sliding door

to individual outdoor chain link runs. In the summer, numerous windows and doors provide good ventilation and large "barn" fans keep air moving. The kennel yard is fully fenced for your dog's protection and roof extensions cover the outside runs to provide protection from sun, rain, and snow. Smoke Rise Kennel also provides field trial and person hunting dog training. We offer training for the pointing breeds including, but not limited to, Pointers, Setters, Brittanies, Vizslas, Weimaraners, and German Shorthaired Pointers. Proof of vaccinations is required before your dog arrives for training. Rabies, DHLPP, and Bordatella (kennel cough) vaccinations are mandatory. Heartworm prevention will only be given if provided by the owner.

Had a fun day at the Medina County Fair last week watching our niece, Sam Phillips, showing dairy cows for Richman Farms. Check out how much bigger than Sam this cow is. Sam's a tough cookie and showed several cows to first and second place finishes. Richman Farms had the Open Grand Champion Holstein - not one of the cows Sam handled, but a great accomplishment for Richman Farms.
Sam and her husband have their own farm in Wooster, called "Horn'd Up Farms." They specialize in Highland cattle and goats and you can find them on Facebook. Check out those cute Highlands in the photo.

Pretty exciting weather here last night but the tornados stayed away. Lots of rain and some flooding but everyone here is safe and warm. Prayers for those nearby who weren't as lucky.

Well, hello everyone! Sorry for the radio silence but the Evil Facebook locked me out of this account and I just convinced it to let me back in (finally!).

I'll be catching up and doing updates but I wanted to remind everyone that Smoke Rise is open for boarding business and happy to care for your canine family members.

More later.

Jesse reported in from the SMWC trial at Ionia. The Open Gun Dog ran today and it rained pretty much all day. Soggy people, dogs and birds.

There is exciting news to report. Goose (Brittany, Sarcheck) earned the second place ribbon in the 19-dog stake. That's a big accomplishment for young Goose! Congratulations to Goose, Jesse, and Ana. Only Amateur stakes run tomorrow so Jesse and TSR will be headed home early in the morning.

It looks like the Michigamme trial (Nov 3-5) at Highland will be the last trial of the season. Folks should start thinking about how they are going to get their team members home. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

10/20/2023

Jesse reported in from the Southern Michigan Weimaraner trial at Ionia, where they are having a soggy start to the long weekend.

They ran the Open Limited Gun Dog today and congratulations go to long-time TSR member Shadow (English Setter, McVeigh) who won the stake. Apparently he's enjoying this reprise of hitting the fields with Jesse because this is the second major stake they've won together in the last couple of weeks. Congratulations to Ray, Kim, Jesse, and Shadow. There were no other TSR placements in the stake. Open Gun Dog runs tomorrow.

10/15/2023

Jesse reported in from NODROG. No joy in the OGD. All the youngsters were bad and all did the walk of shame. "Zero for nine" is the way Jesse put it.

The next trial is the Southern Michigan Weimaraner trial that starts October 19th at Ionia. More then.

10/14/2023

Today at NODROG, Jesse judged seven braces of Amateur Walking Gun Dog in the pouring rain. The Open Gun Dog will run tomorrow. Nothing to report but the need for a better rain coat and lots of towels.

10/13/2023

Jesse reported OLGD results from the NODROG trial this afternoon. TSR was well-represented in the results.

Judy (Viszla, Pullen/Bunk) took fourth place in the large stake. Relative newcomer Goose (Brittany, Sarcheck) earned third place. This is Goose's first season running as a gun dog. First place and 3 points went to Shadow (English Setter, McVeigh). Though a longtime team member, Shadow has not been traveling with TSR this season. But Ray and Kim asked Jesse to handle him in this OLGD stake and the outcome was excellent. Congratulations to all dogs and owners.

10/13/2023

Got Jesse and TSR on the road yesterday to the NODROG trial at Highland MI. They are running the OLGD today. I'll report in later tonight when I hear from him.

10/08/2023

Jesse and TSR are safely home from Michigan. TSR competed in the Open Gun Dog today. Being that the string of gun dogs are mostly young/inexperienced, there were the typical "bad dog" moments and only a couple of our dogs got around with clean bird work. Judy (Vizsla, Pullen/Bunk) was one of the few and was rewarded for her efforts with second place in the 25-dog stake. Due to the size of the stake, second place was good for 2 points! Congratulations to Judy, Jesse, Kitty and Joe.

Next weekend, Jesse and the crew will be back at the Highland grounds for the NODROG Gordon Setter Club trial.

10/07/2023

Jesse just reported in from the Irish Setter Club of Michigan trial at Highland. TSR competed in the Open Limited Gun Dog today. There were a lot of birdless dogs in the stake. Scooter (Viszla, Miklos) was the only TSR dog to get around with clean bird work and he was rewarded with fourth place. Good job, Scooter!

Open Gun Dog will be run tomorrow. More later.

Jesse asked me to share this note from him with all of you.

"After a great deal of thought and soul-searching, I have decided that fall of 2023 will be my last field trial season. After that time, I will no longer professionally campaign dogs in American Field or AKC field trials. This decision has been a long-time coming and I know there have already been some rumors circulating so I wanted to provide you all with the facts. Smoke Rise Kennel will continue to operate as a boarding facility so there will be no impact on that side of the business. If you have specific questions, please contact me directly. Thanks to all past and present TSR members for really great run."

Here's a great photo Paula Kubik shared of Ivan after his 3rd place in Derby at the Brittany trial at Polk, PA. Nice shot and handsome fellow. Thanks, Paula!

09/25/2023

Jesse and TSR just arrived home safely. The Open Gun Dog stake was contested today but there were no placements for any TSR members.

Contrary to the draft schedule, TSR will not be headed back up to Ionia for the 3-day Vizsla Club trial this coming weekend. The next trial will be the Irish Setter Club of Michigan trial at Highland the weekend of 10/07-10/08.

09/24/2023

Okay, here's the latest from the Michigan Brittany trial at Ionia.

The Open Limited Gun Dog was run Friday. Team Smoke Rise member Billy (Brittany, Renius) placed third in that stake.

Today was the Open All Age. Billy again represented for TSR and took first place in the stake. OAA had 19 starters so, if I am remembering correctly, that's 4 points. And it's worth mentioning that this is Billy's first "broke gun dog" season and that he won't be 2 years old until October. So big congratulations to Billy, Paul, and Jesse!

09/23/2023

The Open Limited Gun Dog was run on Friday at Ionia but they had not announced placements by the time Jesse called it a night. And he was out in the first brace this morning so I have nothing to report. Check back this evening.

09/17/2023

Jesse and the Team are home safely from the Polk Brittany trial. Unfortunately, no good news from the Open Gun Dog stake today. For various reasons, none of the dogs got around so there are no TSR placements.
Off to the 3-day trial at Ionia, Michigan next weekend. Maybe better luck there.

09/17/2023

Just spoke to Jesse. A very long day at the Brittany trial at Polk, PA. He didn't get any placements in the OLGD run today but he said he was very pleased with everyone he ran and didn't have any taking the "walk of shame."
In the Open Derby, relative newcomer to Team Smoke Rise, Ivan (Vizsla, Paula Kubick), took third place. Congratuations to Ivan and Paula.
The Open Gun Dog will be run tomorrow after the Amateur is completed. Jesse is judging the Amateur and is in almost every brace of the OGD so it's going to be another long and exhausting day. More news tomorrow night.

And finally, Goose, owned by Ana Sarcheck.
