Our herd of 21 horses live outside 24/7. You might say but aren’t they cold? No! They have thick winter coats that keep them warm along with run in sheds and 24/7 forage digestion in their hindgut keeps their body temperatures regulated.

Pictured below is Wally with a snow covered back. A horse’s winter coat is thick and dense. Natural oils in the fur prohibit precipitation from penetrating deep into the hair. if the snow is building up on top of your horse, this is proof that your horse is not losing body heat-

So thankful to our vets at Genesee Valley Equine Clinic, PLLC after poor Duckie had an adverse reaction to his dewormer they were at the farm in an hour giving him IV meds. Thankfully his swelling subsided and he was back to himself later that evening.
