Save This Life, a Texas-based pet microchip company, has abruptly ceased operations, leaving many pet owners concerned about their pets’ identification and safety. The company’s shutdown has resulted in the disconnection of their database from national registries, meaning that microchips registered with Save This Life no longer link to owners’ contact information when scanned.
Identifying Affected Microchips:
To determine if your pet’s microchip is affected, check the microchip number. Microchips starting with 991 or 900164 are likely from Save This Life. You can verify your pet’s microchip number through your veterinarian or by using the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool.
Recommended Actions:
If your pet’s microchip was registered with Save This Life, it’s crucial to re-register the existing microchip number with another reputable registry to ensure your contact information is accessible if your pet goes missing. Several registries offer this service, including:

FreePetChipRegistry.com: Offers free registration for any brand of microchip.
• PetLink.net: Provides pet recovery services and microchip registration.
• HomeAgain.com: Offers a national pet recovery database and related services.
• AKCReunite.org: The American Kennel Club’s pet recovery service.
Re-registering your pet’s microchip ensures that shelters and veterinary clinics can access your contact information, facilitating a swift reunion if your pet is found. It’s also advisable to keep your contact information up to date in the chosen registry.

Mast cell tumors are the most common skin tumor in dogs, with between seven and 21 percent of all canine skin tumors being mast cell tumors. Diagnosis can often be made with a needle aspirate, which collects some cells of the tumor with a needle, and the cells are examined under the microscope. The granules have distinct staining characteristics that have a firework pattern, leading to their recognition. Early detection saves lives! 🐾 Regular check-ups and prompt attention to new lumps or bumps can make all the difference.
