We know and understand the passion surrounding
the Apache-Sitegrave horses and it’s controversy causing great divides between people. Honestly, it’s sad. Groups who work together with the common goal of the health and well being of the horses vs an approach of competition, the end result is a win for all involved.
Here are some facts despite what is being pushed in the media.
We can tell you several of these horses either under our care now or came through us are in fact domestic.
Holes in the hoof from where a shoe had once been….saddle marks…. Wolf teeth pulled ….. floated teeth ….. halter marks ….. castrated ….. some know basic to advanced commands which only come from human training …… let alone the ones who KNEW what a bag of horse treats sounded like being opened.
These are not long distance observations, these are stemming from hands on interaction with several coming in from the forest.
What is being classified as the ‘Alpine horses’ from observers in a small concentrated area does not mean 100% of the horses were found and documented. It’s been publicized that approximately 80,000 acres were hiked to gather these findings (which I will admit I’m impressed with as I’ve spent many days out on horseback only to cover a fraction of that area).
The Apache Sitegraves forest is over 2,000,000 acres meaning less than 5% of area was observed. With the foaling, lost, abandoned/dumped and lack of citizen visibility to 95% of the forest, I find it entirely believable the number is much higher which lends to the uncontrolled growth rate.
In our 3 decades in the equine rescue world, one thing is a constant, when feed prices go up, horses get dumped. We are in a history making moment right now where hay prices have doubled and tripled in the past 18 months far beyond most other commodities. It IS happening where horses are being turned loose. How can we say with absolute certainty all gatherings consist of only heritage

We can put down 1-5-0 towards her. Would this group be willing to help? It's for a great cause and a great family!!

I just wanted to share another update on the beautiful paint colt saved from Stroud a few weeks ago. Again, he was listed as unhandled. He likely ran through auction that way but here is a PRIME example of what precious gems can be found…AND SAVED! Look at how well he is doing!
Many thanks to Corey and Falisha at Healing Hearts Ranch & Rescue Quarantine Page for doing such a great job!! 💗💜💙
Y’ALL!!!!
Omg this baby!!! 😢💗💗💗
Falisha Raiche said he is totally halterbroke! He is sweet as can be and just wants some love. She said when she led him in his stall he just laid his head on her shoulder and stood there.
Let me tell you…when I saw this boy at Stroud I watched him for a week. I kept thinking surely someone would home such a pretty boy. As the days went in there was just something about him that said SAVE ME.
This goes to show you there are precious diamonds in the rough out there that NEED OUR HELP!
Special thanks again to our donors and to Tamara Pletcher and Nicole Norvell - Donegan who helped network him to his foster home with Shelly Johnson which made his save possible.
