When removing limbs from a tree, you need to be selective and know "when and when not too!" Something of this size should've remained In tact. The removal of such a large limb caused can/had caused the decay to spread up the canopy along scaffold limbs. Make sure you consult with your fellow arborist about your "wants" about your trees; If it's more light to your yard, garden, limbs sratching your homes, vehicles in your driveway, etc. You don't need to remove such a large limb to accomplish the goal! Did a little different rigging technique today. Set the block on "centerish" lead, tip tied the stem with the rig rope and set a caribeaner/sling on the butt end of the stem. Then connected the caribeaner back to rig rope. Doing this helped prevent the stem from swinging back into the trunk and breaking into pieces over the structure, as well as making it easy for the ground crew to get the stem out with ease.
At the tips 2"-3" diameter limbs
The 3:1 with limb walking helps so much
Had an emergency limb removal hung up in an Elm tree today. Set up 2 rig points and was able to capture both limbs after cut was made. Give us a call we can handle it all!
