Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the ongoing wildfires in California. We are in regular contact with our local teams to ensure we are providing support where it’s most needed. Whether it’s offering emergency veterinary services, supplying pet supplies, or simply offering assistance to those affected, we remain committed to helping our communities through these challenging times. Here are some safety tips for pets to keep in mind:
Prepare an Emergency Kit: Make sure pet emergency kits are stocked with food, water, medications, first-aid supplies, a leash, a collar with an ID tag, and a pet carrier. A recent photo of your pet can also be helpful for identification purposes.
Keep Pets Indoors: During extreme weather or smoke-filled air from wildfires, keep pets inside as much as possible. Limit outdoor time to essential bathroom breaks only.
Check for Signs of Stress or Health Issues: Be on the lookout for signs of stress, like increased vocalization, hiding, or panting. For wildfires, monitor for signs of smoke inhalation (coughing, difficulty breathing, red eyes).
Follow Evacuation Plans: Make sure that pets are included in any emergency evacuation plans. Identify pet-friendly shelters in advance, and ensure your pet has proper identification.
Monitor Air Quality: In areas impacted by wildfires or heavy storms, check the air quality regularly. If the air is hazardous, keep pets indoors and limit exercise.
Stay Informed: Stay updated on local news, weather alerts, and wildfire activity. If conditions worsen, be prepared to act quickly and help evacuate pets safely.
