**Meet Wilson!**

Hi, I’m Wilson, a tiny 1-year-old pup with a big personality and a love for life! I may have had a rough start after being hit by a car in Texas, but I’m a resilient little guy who gets around just fine.

Because of my accident, my back legs don’t work too well, and I need to wear a belly band since I can’t control my bladder or bowels—but don’t let that discourage you! I’ve adjusted beautifully and am full of love to give.

I adore my humans and get along well with my foster siblings. I’d love a home where my person is around more often than not so I can spend lots of time with you. At just 4 pounds, I’m easy to snuggle and impossible not to love!

If you think we might be a perfect match, let my foster mom know—you won’t regret it!

Meet Lacey Lu, the little Shihtzu/terrier mix.

She is a little southern girl from Texas where she was found as a stray. Lacey is just a puppy at 4 1/2 months old. She is under socialized but making leaps and bounds in the week she has been in our foster home.

She’s not crazy about meeting new dogs but is now having fun playing with her resident siblings.

Lacey Lu has sensitive skin and will probably require frequent bathing but she is a very good girl for her bubble baths.

She looks like she just rolled out of bed with her crazy hair. She loves to snuggle but loud noises do startle her.

She is enjoying exploring outside now that she can walk on a leash.

Lacey Lu will need someone to help build her confidence.

She is spayed, has her vaccines, microchipped and ready to find her forever family.

Meet Molly! 🐾**
Molly is a sweet 1-year-old, 13-pound Shih Tzu/Terrier mix with a love for life! This playful girl is great with kids and other dogs, and she enjoys her time spent with toys and people alike. Molly is crate-trained and keeps her space tidy, and she’s catching on quickly to routines.

She already recognizes her name and is working hard on commands like “stay,” “sit,” and “leave it.” She thrives on positive reinforcement and adores hugs and love from her humans. ❤️

Molly would love a fenced yard to run and play, as she has lots of energy and enjoys being active. She’s up to date on all her vaccinations, spayed and microchipped, ready to find her forever home.

Hello and please meet Gidget! She is ready to get herself out there to find her furever family.

She's a 2 year old Shih Tsu Poodle mix from a puppy mill. Even so, she seems socialized with people and looks for connection. Although she can be a little nervous around other dogs, she settles quickly. She is very treat motivated which is helping with her house training. She is still healing up from her surgery, but she is blossoming every day she is in our foster home. Gidget is agile on stairs, and does not always respect your personal space, she really likes to get close. She adores stuffed toys and falls asleep while playing them. And she will let you know if she feels left out of any good time, the FOMO is real with this one. She also will not sleep alone, or if you try to make her, she will let you know what she thinks about that.

Dogs: Needs some settling, but ok.
Cats: Unknown
Kids: Unknown
Food: Eating well
Walks: Working on leash manners
Crate trained: No
Housetraining: Doing well

She is playful, joyful, and learning about new things in the world that she has never seen.

Lenny is a male Yorkie pup born 5/22/24, weighing 4.5 pounds. His owner lovingly surrendered him when she could no longer care for him.

Lenny has had a rough month fighting an eye infection and upper respiratory infection and more frequent vet visits. He's just a typical happy puppy going through a little rough patch in life.

**Meet Bunny: A 6-Year-Old Bichon Frise Ready for a Fresh Start**

Hi, I'm Bunny! I'm a gentle 6-year-old female Bichon Frise, and I've recently been rescued from a tough life in a puppy mill. For most of my life, I lived in a crate and had puppies, but now those difficult days are behind me, and I'm looking for a loving forever home.

I’m a quiet and laid-back girl who's just starting to discover the joys of sleeping in a soft bed and getting tasty treats. One of my happiest moments is running around the yard with the other dogs here, feeling the freedom of the outdoors. When I get tired, I love to lay down in the grass and nap in the sun.

I’m still a little scared of being held and petted, but I’m learning to trust again. I follow my foster mom around like a shadow because I don’t want to miss anything. I just need a quiet home where I can continue to build my confidence, without the hustle and bustle of young children. I know that with some time and patience, I can learn that being loved is the best feeling in the world.

We are in desperate need for more foster homes.
Every day we get requests to take in more dogs.
If you have ever thought about fostering now is the time. We have been asked by an Iowa shelter to take 30 shih Tzus from a hoarding situation.
The rescue pays for vetting through a low cost vet. Foster homes give the love and emotional needs. Please consider helping us help those that can’t. Apply at www.nbstr.org click on the volunteer app. You won’t regret it.

So every day we get calls from people. . . they've fallen on hard times, their health is failing or a family member's health is failing. Then we get calls/emails from shelters. . . small scared dogs don't typically do well in a shelter situation, so they contact us for help. If you've EVER thought of fostering now would be the time to step up, we currently are CLOSED to intake any dogs due to not enough foster homes. The picture below is one of the lucky ones, she's long been adopted but Lucy was one of those dogs in a shelter that needed us. We had a foster home and the rest is history. We know we've said it too, I couldn't give them up. . . well. . we only adopt to FANTASTIC people. . . so knowing this makes it easier and yes occasionally we do adopt a foster for our-self, but as someone wise once told me. . .I can't save more dogs if I keep them all.

3 of our fabulous volunteers are driving to Pokahantas Arkansas to pick up dogs from Texas. Each of the rescues that get dogs from Lola’s Lucky Day takes turns driving. We always need volunteers willing to do this and more. Apply to volunteer at www.nbstr.org

Something to share: People often ask whether a dog is housetrained. I struggle with this question because a foster may be house-trained in my house but when coming to an adopter she/he may regress and not be. Really housetraining is usually training the human to see cues and how to respond. Please also discuss with the foster home how you can be successful. I always start by taking them out every 2 hours and expanding the time after several weeks. Praise praise praise when successful with treats. Thank you for listening to my Jane talk.
P.S. if you aren’t willing to start from ground zero please rethink getting a dog. 😁

Hi frens! My name is Patty Poodle. I just came from Texas. I am looking for my new family. I'm really sweet but it will take me some time to settle in. It would be best if I'm an only dog. I love snuggles and ear scritches. I am happy to sleep in my bed on the floor or in bed with you. It doesn't seem to bother me when you leave but I'm excited when you come back home. Rescue Week wrapped up today on WTKM. Thanks so much to all of our great guests this week, including Wendy Smith of Faith and Giggles Gift Shop in downtown Hartford, providing valuable information on pet rescue during our Open Line show at 9:30 a.m.
June Hertzler (L) and Dawn Haverfield-Swann (R) of New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue joined us this morning and discussed their Paws in Hand program. Their adoption process was also a topic of discussion this morning.

So I was going to give you a break from Buddy updates for a few days, but I couldn’t resist sharing this with you. We know a dog is comfortable when they play with toys. Our hearts are full.

Buddy Update- thought you’d enjoy a Video of him checking out the yard. It’s the closest he’s gotten to me without snarling. The vet said his heart is strong without murmurs. Needs to lose some weight. Ahh duh. Blood work to see if anything else is going on. Results back tomorrow She prescribed some meds to make him more calm. Snarled at me and tried to bite me. More when we know more. PS the fur is from my husband brushing our Finnegan (blue healer) in the yard.
