A great day was had today as the future of Oak Point English Setters was able to spend the day afield with Ol’ Dad and our boy Champ.

We traveled to West Virginia to try our hand at some quail hunting that are part of the governor’s Bobwhite Quail restoration project.

Oak Point Boise’s Prince put on a clinic to say the least. A solid covey find of 20-25 birds and then over a half dozen additional points throughout the morning resulting in excellent gunning opportunities resulting in 3 kills. We continued to let Champ hunt once our bag was full until we called it a day around lunch time and after nearly 7 miles (human miles 🤪) on the ground.

Champ is hands down the best dog we’ve ever owned! We are so glad to see his offspring becoming wild bird specialist! It’s the greatest honor to get so many reports of our dogs on the ground doing what they have been bred to do.

Today was a great day, can’t wait for the next!

We had a wonderful trip to the Northwoods with our good pal Matthew Crane and his Boise English Setters crew! Great dog work, great friends, & great memories were made.

Also, would like to give a huge shout out to the North Branch Outing Club for an absolute stellar stay with the best Northwoods hospitality you will find! We will be back again!!

We just had a small, but mighty, litter of Oak Point English Setters. Only 4, and the smallest litter we’ve ever produced. However, we will take quality over quantity. The pups are healthy, vigorous, and full of potential. This litter was very special to us as 3 of the 4 will be within an 40 mile radius of our kennel and all 4 were placed in hunting homes. For the many folks who are still on our wait list, we appreciate your patience. We strive to produce healthy pups that are hunting experts.

No girls in this litter, just 4 beautiful tri boys. We will repeat this breeding 1 more time and that will likely be the last litter for our Trudy.

We have exciting news and big plans in the works, stay tuned! Join us in congratulating the new owners and watch us as the hunting season is here!

Let’s introduce Henry! He is a nice pup from our recent breeding of our, Oak Point Boise’s Prince to Dad’s, Pinecreek Cinder. He is a few days shy of 4 months old. Today he pointed and retrieved his first Maine Ruffed Grouse! Well done young Henry!

Quality breeds quality! We are both very pleased with this report! Stay tuned for more hunting updates as the season begins!

How it All Began...

Oak Point English Setters is a family-centered gun-dog kennel. We are not radical animal rights activists, rather we offer a warm loving and kind approach to doing business. You will not

hear a negative word from us regarding other kennels in the English Setter business. We believe in taking a Christian approach in conducting our business practices and always following the golden rule, “Treat others as you would like to be treated!”.

Here at Oak Point we will be striving to produce what we call true Appalachian “Traditional” or “Classic” style English Setters. Our style of gun-dog would be that of days long past. Our dogs could be called a “Gentleman’s Dog” like many old Norman Rockwell paintings. We strive to produce the beauty that George Bird Evans so loved. As George Ryman once said, “I want a dog that is excellent in the field and a pleasure to the eye the rest of the year.” Our dogs are gentle, loving, affectionate, and always striving to please their owner. The foundation of our kennel is pictured above, Oak Point Trudy. We acquired Trudy from a fine Christian gentleman, Mr. Derek Smith, breeder and owner of Pine Mountain Setters of Daniels, West Virginia. Mr. Smith’s foundation blood was that from old time grouse hunters of Virginia, Mr. Woodrow Mullins and Mr. Tom Rasnic. We spent two years searching for the “Right” dog to get us up and running. I personally read many books and spent hundreds of hours talking to breeders from all over the country who were advertising the type of Setter I was looking for. After I talked with Mr. Smith, I knew right then he was the perfect match for us.

Here at Oak Point, we strive to produce a foot-hunting gun-dog. If you are looking for a trial-type Setter, we will not be for you. Our dogs are hunting dogs who are methodical and persistent. Sometimes I like to refer to them as “meat dogs” because you can rest-assured

that when they hunt and point there will be “meat” flying soon! Our dogs have natural instinctive retrieving skills and will typically point at an early age at a rag, or bird wing tied to a fishing pole. Our dogs are family dogs who love children and children love them. We strive to see that our pups are placed in homes with children as often as possible.

At Oak Point our breeding program revolves around four things in this particular order; (1) the dog must possess excellent hunting qualities, (2) the dog must be in excellent health and have at the minimum

an OFA rating of FAIR, GOOD, or EXCELLENT for hips, (3) the dog must possess an ideal breed standard for weight and conformation, and (4) have a likable personality free of personality disorder. Once we begin our breeding program we will screen future owners by a paper and phone interview process to ensure that our dogs will be right for you and you for them. We will also provide a full insurance program to guarantee the health of our dogs within our purchase agreement and contract.

We pride ourselves in being a total INDEPENDENT breeder and we are not affiliated with any group of breeders at all. All of our breeding practices and decisions are made solely by us.
