The NRAR is a group that is dedicated to serving the needs of community members and animals. The New River Humane Society, Inc.

provides low cost spay and neuter for Fayette Co, WV residents as well as participates in a feral cat colony program to assist our county residents with the feral cat population. In addition, we place animals in need into loving homes or rescues.

❄️🥶 On this cold and blustery 💨 morning, our dedicated team of staff and volunteers loaded 51 cats 🐈🐈‍⬛ to head to rescue. They loaded this transport in the middle of the night, getting our volunteer driver on the road by 4am to ensure the animals made it safely before the bad weather came in!

As 2024 comes to an end, we find ourselves looking back over the year - at the good and the bad.
We’ve taken in over 1,600 animals in the last 365 days. We’ve fought for them, loved them, bottle fed them, played with them, cared for them in sickness, and nursed them back to health.

We’ve celebrated their victories and morned their loses.

We are nothing without our community. It’s what makes us. And our community of the most caring cat people, devoted dog people, and everyone else in between came together this year to give more than 1,600 cats, dogs, kittens and puppies a second chance at a good life.

Thank you for a great year and here’s to the new one.🥂

They will never stop needing us.

Donate to support Petunia’s vet care! 🌺

Our goal is $154 to cover her current bill, any extra donated will go towards her future vet bills. 🙏

Petunia is 10 years old and has some health issues. She has been experiencing an eye bulge, weight loss, and a concerning skin condition. Our vet ran blood tests, and the results showed elevated liver enzymes and enlarged lymph nodes. These findings are worrying, and we're concerned about potential conditions like hypothyroidism and lymphoma.

Petunia is currently receiving medication to address her skin issues and help rule out some possibilities. However, further testing and treatment will be crucial to determine the best course of action and give Petunia the best chance at a healthy life.

The cost of veterinary care can quickly add up, and we're reaching out to our amazing community for support. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in Petunia's life.

Our Story

The New River Humane Society is a passionate group that is dedicated to serving the needs of community members and animals in Fayette County, WV and beyond. For the past four years, despite astronomical odds against them, this organization has maintained a no-kill status. An average of about 1800 animals enters the facility each year and huge efforts from staff, volunteers, and board members have allowed none of them to be euthanized due to lack of space. All work tirelessly to reunite owners with their pets, adopt animals to new loving homes, secure foster homes, and partner with reputable rescue organizations that aim to help find loving and safe new home for our animals.
